NASB — Job 36 — KJV

Elihu Speaks of God’s Dealings with Men

1 Then Elihu° continued° and said°,
  2 “Wait° for me a little°, and I will show° you
  That there Iis yet° more° to be said° in God’s° behalf.
  3 “I will fetch° my knowledge° from afar°,
  And I will ascribe° arighteousness° to my Maker°.
  4 “For truly° amy words° are not false°;
  One who° is bperfect° in knowledge° is with you.
  5 “Behold°, God° is mighty° but does not adespise° [any];
  [He is] bmighty° in strength° of understanding°.
  6 “He does not akeep° the wicked° alive°,
  But gives° justice° to bthe afflicted°.
  7 “He does not awithdraw° His eyes° from the righteous°;
  But bwith kings° on the throne°
  He has seated° them forever°, and they are exalted°.
  8 “And if° they are bound° in fetters°,
  And are caught° in the cords° of aaffliction°,
  9 Then He declares° to them their work°
  And their transgressions°, that they have amagnified° themselves.
  10aHe opens° their ear° to instruction°,
  And bcommands° that they return° from evil°.
  11 “If° they hear° and serve° [Him],
  They will aend° their days° in prosperity°
  And their years° in bpleasures°.
  12 “But if° they do not hear°, they shall Iperish° aby the sword°
  And they will bdie° without° knowledge°.
  13 “But the godless° in heart° lay° up anger°;
  They do not cry° for help° when° He binds° them.
  14IThey die° in youth°,
  And their life° [perishes] among the acult° prostitutes°.
  15 “He delivers° the afflicted° in Itheir aaffliction°,
  And bopens° their ear° IIin [time of] oppression°.
  16 “Then indeed°, He aenticed° you from the mouth° of distress°,
  Instead° of it, a broad° place° with no° constraint°;
  And that which° was set° on your table° was full° of Ifatness°.

Elihu sheweth how God is just in his ways.

1 ¶ Elihuº also proceeded,ºª and said,ºª 2 Sufferºª me a little,º and I will shewºª thee that² [I have] yet² to speakº on God'sº behalf. 3 I will fetchºª my knowledgeº from afar,º² and will ascribeºª righteousnessº to my Maker.ºª 4 For² trulyº my wordsº [shall] not² [be] false:º he that is perfectº in knowledgeº [is] with² thee. 5 Behold,² Godº [is] mighty,º and despisethºª not² [any: he is] mightyº in strengthº [and] wisdom.º 6 He preserveth not the lifeºª² of the wicked:º but givethºª rightº to the poor.º 7 He withdrawethºª not² his eyesº from the righteous:º² but with² kingsº [are they] on the throne;º yea, he doth establishºª them for ever,º and they are exalted.ºª 8 And if² [they be] boundºª in fetters,º [and] be holdenºª in cordsº of affliction;º 9 Then he shewethºª them their work,º and their transgressionsº that² they have exceeded.ºª 10 He openethºª also their earº to discipline,º and commandethºª that² they returnºª from iniquity.º² 11 If² they obeyºª and serveºª [him], they shall spendºª their daysº in prosperity,º and their yearsº in pleasures.º 12 But if² they obeyºª not,² they shall perishºª by the sword,º and they shall dieºª without² knowledge.º 13 But the hypocritesº in heartº heap upºª wrath:º they cryºª not² when² he bindethºª them. 14 Theyº dieºª in youth,º and their lifeº [is] among the unclean.º 15 He deliverethºª the poorº in his affliction,º and openethºª their earsº in oppression.º

16 Even so² would he have removedºª thee out of the straitºº² [into] a broad place,º whereº [there is] no² straitness;º and that which should be setº on thy tableº [should be] fullºª of fatness.º 17 But thou hast fulfilledºª the judgmentº of the wicked:º judgmentº and justiceº take holdºª [on thee]. 18 Because² [there is] wrath,º [beware] lest² he take thee awayºª with [his] stroke:º then a great¹² ransomº cannot² deliverºª thee. 19 Will he esteemºª thy riches?º [no], not² gold,º nor all² the forcesº of strength.º 20 Desireºª not² the night,º when peopleº are cut offºª in their place.² 21 Take heed,ºª regard¹ª not²²² iniquity:º for²² this² hast thou chosenºª rather than affliction.º² 22 Behold,² Godº exaltethºª by his power:º who² teachethºª like him?² 23 Who² hath enjoinedºª² him his way?º or who² can say,ºª Thou hast wroughtºª iniquity?º
