The sum of all Israel is taken in the plains of Moab.

1 ¶ And it came to pass² afterº the plague,º that the LORDº spakeºª unto² Mosesº and unto² Eleazarº the sonº of Aaronº the priest,º saying,ºª 2 Takeºª² the sumº of all² the congregationº of the childrenº of Israel,º from twentyº yearsº oldº² and upward,º throughout their fathers'º house,º all² that are able to goºª to warº in Israel.º 3 And Mosesº and Eleazarº the priestº spakeºª with² them in the plainsº of Moabº by² Jordanº [near] Jericho,º saying,ºª 4 [Take the sum of the people], from twentyº yearsº oldº² and upward;º as² the LORDº commandedºª² Mosesº and the childrenº of Israel,º which went forthºª out of the landº² of Egypt.º

5 ¶ Reuben,º the eldest¹ son² of Israel:º the childrenº of Reuben;º Hanoch,º [of whom cometh] the familyº of the Hanochites:º of Pallu,º the familyº of the Palluites:º 6 Of Hezron,º the familyº of the Hezronites:º of Carmi,º the familyº of the Carmites.º 7 These² [are] the familiesº of the Reubenites:º and they that were numberedºª of them were² fortyº and threeº thousandº and sevenº hundredº and thirty.º 8 And the sonsº of Pallu;º Eliab.º 9 And the sonsº of Eliab;º Nemuel,º and Dathan,º and Abiram.º This² [is that] Dathanº and Abiram,º [which were] famousº¹ª in the congregation,º who² stroveºª against² Mosesº and against² Aaronº in the companyº of Korah,º when they stroveºª against² the LORD:º 10 And the earthº openedºª² her mouth,º and swallowed them up¹ª together²² with² Korah,º when that companyº died,¹² what time the fireº devouredºª two hundredº and² fiftyº men:º and they became² a sign.º 11 Notwithstanding the childrenº of Korahº diedºª not.²

12 ¶ The sonsº of Simeonº after their families:º of Nemuel,º the familyº of the Nemuelites:º of Jamin,º the familyº of the Jaminites:º of Jachin,º the familyº of the Jachinites:º 13 Of Zerah,º the familyº of the Zarhites:º of Shaul,º the familyº of the Shaulites.º 14 These² [are] the familiesº of the Simeonites,º twentyº and twoº thousandº and two hundred.º

15 ¶ The childrenº of Gadº after their families:º of Zephon,º the familyº of the Zephonites:¹² of Haggi,º the familyº of the Haggites:º of Shuni,º the familyº of the Shunites:º 16 Of Ozni,º the familyº of the Oznites:º of Eri,º the familyº of the Erites:º 17 Of Arod,º the familyº of the Arodites:º of Areli,º the familyº of the Arelites.º 18 These² [are] the familiesº of the childrenº of Gadº according to those that were numberedºª of them, fortyº thousandº and fiveº hundred.º

19 ¶ The sonsº of Judahº [were] Erº and Onan:º and Erº and Onanº diedºª in the landº of Canaan.º 20 And the sonsº of Judahº after their familiesº were;² of Shelah,º the familyº of the Shelanites:º of Pharez,º the familyº of the Pharzites:º of Zerah,º the familyº of the Zarhites.º 21 And the sonsº of Pharezº were;² of Hezron,º the familyº of the Hezronites:º of Hamul,º the familyº of the Hamulites.º 22 These² [are] the familiesº of Judahº according to those that were numberedºª of them, threescore and sixteenºº thousandº and fiveº hundred.º

23 ¶ [Of] the sonsº of Issacharº after their families:º [of] Tola,º the familyº of the Tolaites:º of Pua,º the familyº of the Punites:º 24 Of Jashub,º the familyº of the Jashubites:º of Shimron,º the familyº of the Shimronites.º 25 These² [are] the familiesº of Issacharº according to those that were numberedºª of them, threescoreº and fourº thousandº and threeº hundred.º

26 ¶ [Of] the sonsº of Zebulunº after their families:º of Sered,º the familyº of the Sardites:º of Elon,º the familyº of the Elonites:º of Jahleel,º the familyº of the Jahleelites.º 27 These² [are] the familiesº of the Zebulunitesº according to those that were numberedºª of them, threescoreº thousandº and fiveº hundred.º

28 ¶ The sonsº of Josephº after their familiesº [were] Manassehº and Ephraim.º 29 Of the sonsº of Manasseh:º of Machir,º the familyº of the Machirites:º and Machirº begatºª² Gilead:º of Gileadº [come] the familyº of the Gileadites.º 30 These² [are] the sonsº of Gilead:º [of] Jeezer,º the familyº of the Jeezerites:º of Helek,º the familyº of the Helekites:º 31 And [of] Asriel,º the familyº of the Asrielites:º and [of] Shechem,º the familyº of the Shechemites:º 32 And [of] Shemida,º the familyº of the Shemidaites:º and [of] Hepher,º the familyº of the Hepherites.º

33 ¶ And Zelophehadº the sonº of Hepherº had² no² sons,º but²² daughters:º and the namesº of the daughtersº of Zelophehadº [were] Mahlah,º and Noah,º Hoglah,º Milcah,º and Tirzah.º 34 These² [are] the familiesº of Manasseh,º and those that were numberedºª of them, fiftyº and twoº thousandº and sevenº hundred.º

35 ¶ These² [are] the sonsº of Ephraimº after their families:º of Shuthelah,º the familyº of the Shuthalhites:º of Becher,º the familyº of the Bachrites:º of Tahan,º the familyº of the Tahanites.º 36 And these² [are] the sonsº of Shuthelah:º of Eran,º the familyº of the Eranites.º 37 These² [are] the familiesº of the sonsº of Ephraimº according to those that were numberedºª of them, thirtyº and twoº thousandº and fiveº hundred.º These² [are] the sonsº of Josephº after their families.º

38 ¶ The sonsº of Benjaminº after their families:º of Bela,º the familyº of the Belaites:º of Ashbel,º the familyº of the Ashbelites:º of Ahiram,º the familyº of the Ahiramites:º 39 Of Shupham,º the familyº of the Shuphamites:º of Hupham,º the familyº of the Huphamites.º 40 And the sonsº of Belaº were² Ardº and Naaman:º [of Ard], the familyº of the Ardites:º [and] of Naaman,º the familyº of the Naamites.º 41 These² [are] the sonsº of Benjaminº after their families:º and they that were numberedºª of them [were] fortyº and fiveº thousandº and sixº hundred.º

42 ¶ These² [are] the sonsº of Danº after their families:º of Shuham,º the familyº of the Shuhamites.º These² [are] the familiesº of Danº after their families.º 43 All² the familiesº of the Shuhamites,º according to those that were numberedºª of them, [were] threescoreº and fourº thousandº and fourº hundred.º

44 ¶ [Of] the childrenº of Asherº after their families:º of Jimna,º the familyº of the Jimnites:º of Jesui,º the familyº of the Jesuites:º of Beriah,º the familyº of the Beriites.º 45 Of the sonsº of Beriah:º of Heber,º the familyº of the Heberites:º of Malchiel,º the familyº of the Malchielites.º 46 And the nameº of the daughterº of Asherº [was] Sarah.º 47 These² [are] the familiesº of the sonsº of Asherº according to those that were numberedºª of them; [who were] fiftyº and threeº thousandº and fourº hundred.º

48 ¶ [Of] the sonsº of Naphtaliº after their families:º of Jahzeel,º the familyº of the Jahzeelites:º of Guni,º the familyº of the Gunites:º 49 Of Jezer,º the familyº of the Jezerites:¹² of Shillem,º the familyº of the Shillemites.º 50 These² [are] the familiesº of Naphtaliº according to their families:º and they that were numberedºª of them [were] fortyº and fiveº thousandº and fourº hundred.º 51 These² [were] the numberedºª of the childrenº of Israel,º sixº hundredº thousandº and a thousandº sevenº hundredº and thirty.º

The law of dividing among them the inheritance of the land.

52 ¶ And the LORDº spakeºª unto² Moses,º saying,ºª 53 Unto these² the landº shall be dividedºª for an inheritanceº according to the numberº of names.º 54 To manyº thou shalt give the moreºª inheritance,º and to fewº thou shalt give the lessºª inheritance:º to every oneº shall his inheritanceº be givenºª according¹ to² those that were numberedºª of him. 55 Notwithstanding²² the landº shall be dividedºª by lot:º according to the namesº of the tribesº of their fathersº they shall inherit.ºª 56 According¹ to²² the lotº shall the possessionº thereof be dividedºª between² manyº and few.º

The families and number of the Levites.

57 ¶ And these² [are] they that were numberedºª of the Levitesº after their families:º of Gershon,º the familyº of the Gershonites:º of Kohath,º the familyº of the Kohathites:º of Merari,º the familyº of the Merarites.º 58 These² [are] the familiesº of the Levites:º the familyº of the Libnites,¹² the familyº of the Hebronites,º the familyº of the Mahlites,º the familyº of the Mushites,º the familyº of the Korathites.º And Kohathº begatºª² Amram.º 59 And the nameº of Amram'sº wifeº [was] Jochebed,º the daughterº of Levi,º whom² [her mother] bareºª to Leviº in Egypt:º and she bareºª unto Amramº² Aaronº and Moses,º and Miriamº their sister.º 60 And unto Aaronº was bornºª² Nadab,º and Abihu,º² Eleazar,º and Ithamar.º 61 And Nadabº and Abihuº died,ºª when they offeredºª strangeºª fireº beforeº the LORD.º 62 And those that were numberedºª of them were² twentyº and threeº thousand,º all² malesº from a monthº oldº² and upward:º for² they were not² numberedºª amongº the childrenº of Israel,º because² there was no² inheritanceº givenºª them amongº the childrenº of Israel.º

None were left of them which were numbered at Sinai, but Caleb and Joshua.

63 ¶ These² [are] they that were numberedºª by Mosesº and Eleazarº the priest,º who² numberedºª² the childrenº of Israelº in the plainsº of Moabº by² Jordanº [near] Jericho.º 64 But among these² there was² not² a manº of them whom Mosesº and Aaronº the priestº numbered,ºª² when² they numberedºª² the childrenº of Israelº in the wildernessº of Sinai.º 65 For² the LORDº had saidºª of them, They shall surely¹ª dieºª in the wilderness.º And there was not² leftºª a manº of² them, save²² Calebº the sonº of Jephunneh,º and Joshuaº the sonº of Nun.º
