themselves of him: |
Jeremiah 30:8
_ _ his yoke ... thy neck his, that is, Jacob’s (Jeremiah 30:7), the yoke imposed on him. The transition to the second person is frequent, God speaking of Jacob or Israel, at the same time addressing him directly. So “him” rightly follows; “foreigners shall no more make him their servant” (Jeremiah 25:14). After the deliverance by Cyrus, Persia, Alexander, Antiochus, and Rome made Judah their servant. The full of deliverance meant must, therefore, be still future. |
Jeremiah 30:8
In that day In the day when God should deliver the seed of Jacob out of trouble. His yoke The yoke of the king of Babylon, that power of his, which for seventy years he exercised over the Jews. Of him Of the Jews. |

Jeremiah 28:10 Then Hananiah the prophet took the yoke from off the prophet Jeremiah's neck, and brake it. Jeremiah 28:13 Go and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Thou hast broken the yokes of wood; but thou shalt make for them yokes of iron. Isaiah 9:4 For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian. Isaiah 10:27 And it shall come to pass in that day, [that] his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing. Isaiah 14:25 That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders. Nahum 1:13 For now will I break his yoke from off thee, and will burst thy bonds in sunder.
