Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary

Jeremiah 51:56

_ _ taken — when they were least expecting it, and in such a way that resistance was impossible.

Matthew Henry's Commentary

See commentary on Jeremiah 51:1-58.

John Wesley's Explanatory Notes

Jeremiah 51:56

Because — Little more is said here than was before, only the words hint the taking of Babylon by a surprize when the king, and the inhabitants were not aware of it, which we had before also told us, Jeremiah 51:39-40. Requite — The wrongs done to his people.
