Israel Urged to Obey God’s Law

25 ¶ When² thou shalt begetºª children,º and children'sº children,º and ye shall have remained longºª in the land,º and shall corruptºª [yourselves], and makeºª a graven image,º [or] the likenessº of any² [thing], and shall doºª evilº in the sightº of the LORDº thy God,º to provoke him to anger:ºª 26 I callºª² heavenº and earthº to witnessºª against you this day,º that² ye shall soonº utterly¹ª perishºª from off²² the landº whereunto²² ye² go overºª² Jordanº to possessºª it; ye shall not² prolongºª [your] daysº upon² it, but² shall utterly¹ª be destroyed.ºª 27 And the LORDº shall scatterºª you among the nations,º and ye shall be leftºª fewº in numberº among the heathen,º whither²² the LORDº shall leadºª you. 28 And there² ye shall serveºª gods,º the workº of men'sº hands,º woodº and stone,º which² neither² see,ºª nor² hear,ºª nor² eat,ºª nor² smell.ºª 29 But if from thence²² thou shalt seekºª² the LORDº thy God,º thou shalt findºª [him], if² thou seekºª him with all² thy heartº and with all² thy soul.º 30 When thou art in tribulation,º and all² these² thingsº are comeºª upon thee, [even] in the latterº days,º if thou turnºª to² the LORDº thy God,º and shalt be obedientºª unto his voice;º 31 (For² the LORDº thy Godº [is] a mercifulº God;)º he will not² forsakeºª thee, neither² destroyºª thee, nor² forgetºª² the covenantº of thy fathersº which² he swareºª unto them. 32 For² askºª now² of the daysº that are past,º which² wereºª beforeº thee, since² the dayº that² Godº createdºª manº upon² the earth,º and [ask] from the one sideº² of heavenº unto² the other,²² whether there hath been² [any such thing] as this² greatº thingº [is], or² hath been heardºª like it?² 33 Did [ever] peopleº hearºª the voiceº of Godº speaking² out¹ª of the midstº² of the fire,º as² thou² hast heard,ºª and live?ºª 34 Or² hath Godº assayedºª to goºª [and] takeºª him a nationº from the midstº² of [another] nation,º by temptations,º by signs,º and by wonders,º and by war,º and by a mightyº hand,º and by a stretched outºª arm,º and by greatº terrors,º according to all² that² the LORDº your Godº didºª for you in Egyptº before your eyes?º 35 Unto thee² it was shewed,ºª that thou mightest knowºª that² the LORDº he² [is] God;º [there is] none² elseº beside²² him.¹ 36 Out of² heavenº he made thee to hearºª² his voice,º that he might instructºª thee: and upon² earthº he shewedºª thee² his greatº fire;º and thou heardestºª his wordsº out of the midstº² of the fire.º 37 And because²² he lovedºª² thy fathers,º therefore he choseºª their seedº afterº them, and brought thee outºª in his sightº with his mightyº powerº out of Egypt;º² 38 To drive outºª nationsº from beforeº² thee greaterº and mightierº than² thou [art], to bring¹ª thee in,² to giveºª thee² their landº [for] an inheritance,º as [it is] this² day.º 39 Knowºª therefore this day,º and considerºª [it] in² thine heart,º that² the LORDº he² [is] Godº in heavenº above,º² and upon² the earthº beneath:²² [there is] none² else.² 40 Thou shalt keepºª therefore² his statutes,º and his commandments,º which² I² commandºª thee this day,º that² it may go wellºª with thee, and with thy childrenº afterº thee, and that² thou mayest prolongºª [thy] daysº upon² the earth,º which² the LORDº thy Godº givethºª thee, for ever.²²
