The Covenant in Horeb.

1 ¶ And Mosesº calledºª² all² Israel,º and saidºª unto² them, Hear,ºª O Israel,º² the statutesº and judgmentsº which² I² speakºª in your earsº this day,º that ye may learnºª them, and keep,ºª and doºª them. 2 The LORDº our Godº madeºª a covenantº with² us in Horeb.º 3 The LORDº madeºª not²² this² covenantº with² our fathers,º but² with² us,¹ [even] us,² who² [are] all² of us¹ here² aliveº this day.º 4 The LORDº talkedºª with² you face¹ to faceº in the mountº out of the midstº² of the fire,º 5 (I² stoodºª between² the LORDº and you at that² time,º to shewºª you² the wordº of the LORD:º for² ye were afraidºª by reason¹ of²² the fire,º and went not upºª² into the mount;)º saying,ºª

The Ten Commandments.

6 ¶ I² [am] the LORDº thy God,º which² brought² thee out¹ª of the landº² of Egypt,º from the houseº² of bondage.º 7 Thou shalt have² none² otherº godsº beforeº² me. 8 Thou shalt not² makeºª thee [any] graven image,º [or] any² likenessº [of any thing] that² [is] in heavenº above,º² or that² [is] in the earthº beneath,²² or that² [is] in the watersº beneath²² the earth:º 9 Thou shalt not² bow down¹ª thyself² unto them, nor² serveºª them: for² I² the LORDº thy Godº [am] a jealousº God,º visitingºª the iniquityº of the fathersº upon² the childrenº unto² the thirdº and fourthº [generation] of them that hateºª me, 10 And shewingºª mercyº unto thousandsº of them that loveºª me and keepºª my commandments.º 11 Thou shalt not² takeºª² the nameº of the LORDº thy Godº in vain:º for² the LORDº will not² hold [him] guiltlessºª² that² takethºª² his nameº in vain.º 12 Keepºª² the sabbathº dayº to sanctifyºª it, as² the LORDº thy Godº hath commandedºª thee. 13 Sixº daysº thou shalt labour,ºª and doºª all² thy work:º 14 But the seventhº dayº [is] the sabbathº of the LORDº thy God:º [in it] thou shalt not² doºª any² work,º thou,² nor thy son,º nor thy daughter,º nor thy manservant,º nor thy maidservant,º nor thine ox,º nor thine ass,º nor any² of thy cattle,º nor thy strangerº that² [is] within thy gates;º that² thy manservantº and thy maidservantº may restºª as well as thou. 15 And rememberºª that² thou wast² a servantº in the landº of Egypt,º and [that] the LORDº thy Godº brought¹ª thee out² thence²² through a mightyº handº and by a stretched outºª arm:º therefore²² the LORDº thy Godº commandedºª thee to keepºª² the sabbathº day.º

16 ¶ Honourºª² thy fatherº and thy mother,º as² the LORDº thy Godº hath commandedºª thee; that² thy daysº may be prolonged,ºª and that² it may go wellºª with thee, in² the landº which² the LORDº thy Godº givethºª thee. 17 Thou shalt not² kill.ºª 18 Neither² shalt thou commit adultery.ºª 19 Neither² shalt thou steal.ºª 20 Neither² shalt thou bearºª falseº witnessº against thy neighbour.º 21 Neither² shalt thou desireºª thy neighbour'sº wife,º neither² shalt thou covetºª thy neighbour'sº house,º his field,º or his manservant,º or his maidservant,º his ox,º or his ass,º or any² [thing] that² [is] thy neighbour's.º

At the people's request Moses receiveth the Law from God.

22 ¶² These² wordsº the LORDº spakeºª unto² all² your assemblyº in the mountº out of the midstº² of the fire,º of the cloud,º and of the thick darkness,º with a greatº voice:º and he added no more.ºª² And he wroteºª them in² twoº tablesº of stone,º and deliveredºª them unto² me. 23 And it came to pass,² when ye heardºª² the voiceº out of the midstº² of the darkness,º (for the mountainº did burnºª with fire,)º that ye came nearºª unto² me, [even] all² the headsº of your tribes,º and your elders;º 24 And ye said,ºª Behold,² the LORDº our Godº hath shewedºª us² his gloryº and his greatness,º and we have heardºª his voiceº out of the midstº² of the fire:º we have seenºª this² dayº that² Godº doth talkºª with² man,º and he liveth.ºª 25 Now² therefore why² should we die?ºª for² this² greatº fireº will consumeºª us: if² we² hearºª² the voiceº of the LORDº our Godº any more,ºª² then we shall die.ºª 26 For² who² [is there of] all² flesh,º that² hath heardºª the voiceº of the livingº Godº speakingºª out of the midstº² of the fire,º as we² [have], and lived?ºª 27 Go thou near,ºª² and hearºª² all² that² the LORDº our Godº shall say:ºª and speakºª thou² unto² us² all² that² the LORDº our Godº shall speakºª unto² thee; and we will hearºª [it], and doºª [it]. 28 And the LORDº heardºª² the voiceº of your words,º when ye spakeºª unto² me; and the LORDº saidºª unto² me, I have heardºª² the voiceº of the wordsº of this² people,º which² they have spokenºª unto² thee: they have well¹ª said² all² that² they have spoken.ºª 29 O that²² there were² suchº an¹ heartº in them,¹ª that they would fearºª me, and keepºª² all² my commandmentsº always,º² that² it might be wellºª with them, and with their childrenº for ever!º 30 Go¹ª² sayºª to them, Getºª you into your tentsº again.¹ª 31 But as for thee,² standºª thou here² by² me,¹ and I will speakºª unto² thee² all² the commandments,º and the statutes,º and the judgments,º which² thou shalt teachºª them, that they may doºª [them] in the landº which² I² giveºª them to possessºª it. 32 Ye shall observeºª to doºª therefore as² the LORDº your Godº hath commandedºª you: ye shall not² turn asideºª to the right handº or to the left.º 33 Ye shall walk¹ª² in all² the waysº which² the LORDº your Godº hath commandedºª you, that² ye may live,ºª and [that it may be] wellºª with you, and [that] ye may prolongºª [your] daysº in the landº which² ye shall possess.ºª
