Woe to Oppressors

  1 Woe° to those who ascheme° iniquity°,
  Who work° out evil° on their beds°!
  I bWhen morning° comes, they do° it,
  For it is in the cpower° of their hands°.
  2 They acovet° fields° and then bseize° [them],
  And houses°, and take° [them] away.
  They I crob° a man° and his house°,
  A man° and his inheritance°.
3 Therefore° thus° says° the LORD°,
  “Behold°, I am aplanning° against° this° bfamily° a calamity°
  From which° you ccannot° remove° your necks°;
  And you will not walk° dhaughtily°,
  For it will be an eevil° time°.
  4 “On that day° they will atake° up against° you a Itaunt°
  And II butter° a bitter° lamentation° [and] say°,
  ‘We are completely° cdestroyed°!
  He exchanges° the portion° of my people°;
  How° He removes° it from me!
  To the apostate° He dapportions° our fields°.’

  6 ¶ ‘aDo not Ispeak° out,’ [so] they Ispeak° out.
  [But if] IIthey do bnot Ispeak° out concerning these° things°,
  cReproaches° will not be turned° back°.
  7 “Is it being said°, O house° of Jacob°:
  ‘Is the Spirit° of the LORD° aimpatient°?
  Are these° His doings°?’
  Do not My words° bdo° good°
  To the one cwalking° uprightly°?
  8 “IRecently° My people° have arisen° as an aenemy°—
  You bstrip° the IIrobe°° off° the garment°
  From cunsuspecting° passers-by°,
  [From] those returned° from war°.
  9 “The women° of My people° you aevict°,
  Each [one] from her pleasant° house°.
  From her children° you take° My bsplendor° forever°.
  10 “Arise° and go°,
  For this° is no° place° aof rest°
  Because° of the buncleanness° that brings° on destruction°,
  A painful° destruction°.
  11 “If° a man° walking° after wind° and afalsehood°
  Had told° lies° [and said],
  ‘I will Ispeak° out to you concerning bwine° and liquor°,’

A lamentation.

4 ¶ In that² dayº shall [one] take upº ª a parableº against² you, and lamentº ª with a dolefulº lamentation,º [and] say,º ª We be² utterly¹ ª spoiled:º ª he hath changedº ª the portionº of my people:º how² hath he removedº ª [it] from me! turning away¹ ª ² he hath dividedº ª our fields.º 5 Therefore² thou shalt have² none² that shall castº ª a cordº by lotº in the congregationº of the LORD.º 6 Prophesyº ª ye not,² [say they to them that] prophesy:º ª they shall not² prophesyº ª to them,² [that] they shall not² takeº ª shame.º

12 ¶ I will surely¹ ª assemble,º ª O Jacob,º all² of thee; I will surely¹ ª gatherº ª the remnantº of Israel;º I will putº ª them togetherº as the sheepº of Bozrah,º ª ¹ as the flockº in the midstº of their fold:º they shall make great noiseº ª by reason of [the multitude of] men.º ² 13 The breakerº ª is come upº ª beforeº them: they have broken up,º ª and have passed throughº ª the gate,º and are gone outº ª by it: and their kingº shall passº ª beforeº them, and the LORDº on the headº of them.
