Haman’s Plot against the Jews1 After° these° events° King° Ahasuerus° apromoted° Haman°, the son° of Hammedatha° bthe Agagite°, and aadvanced° him and Iestablished° his authority° over°° all° the princes° who° [were] with him. 2 All° the king’s° servants° who° were at the king’s° gate° bowed° down° Iand paid° homage° to Haman°; for so° the king° had commanded° concerning him. But aMordecai° neither° bowed° down° nor° paid° homage°. 3 Then the king’s° servants° who° were at athe king’s° gate° said° to Mordecai°, “bWhy° are you transgressing° the king’s° command°?” 4 Now it was when they had spoken° daily° to him and he would not listen° to them, that they told° Haman° to see° whether Mordecai’s° reason° would stand°; for he had told° them that he was a Jew°. 5 When Haman° saw° that aMordecai° neither° bowed° down° nor° paid° homage° to him, Haman° was filled° with rage°. 6 But he Idisdained°° to IIlay° hands° on Mordecai° alone°, for they had told° him [who] the people° of Mordecai° [were]; therefore Haman° asought° to destroy° all° the Jews°, the people° of Mordecai°, who° [were] throughout the whole° kingdom° of Ahasuerus°. Haman, advanced by the king, and despised by Mordecai, seeketh revenge upon all the Jews.1 ¶ Afterº these² thingsº did kingº Ahasuerusº promoteºª² Hamanº the sonº of Hammedathaº the Agagite,º and advancedºª him, and setºª² his seatº above²² all² the princesº that² [were] with² him. 2 And all² the king'sº servants,º that² [were] in the king'sº gate,º bowed,ºª and reverencedºª Haman:º for² the kingº had so² commandedºª concerning him.
