Idolatrous Worship Denounced

1 And the word° of the LORD° came° to me saying°, 2 “Son° of man°, set° your face° toward° the amountains° of Israel°, and prophesy° against° them 3 and say°, ‘Mountains° of Israel°, listen° to the word° of the Lord° IGOD°! Thus° says° the Lord° IGOD° to the mountains°, the hills°, the ravines° and the valleys°: “Behold°, I Myself° am going to bring° a sword° on you, and aI will destroy° your high° places°. 4 So your aaltars° will become° desolate° and your incense° altars° will be smashed°; and I will make your slain° fall° in front° of your idols°. 5 I will also lay° the dead° bodies° of the sons° of Israel° in front° of their idols°; and I will scatter° your abones° around° your altars°. 6 In all° your dwellings°, acities° will become° waste° and the high° places° will be desolate°, that your altars° may become° waste° and Idesolate°, your bidols° may be broken° and brought° to an end°, your incense° altars° may be cut° down°, and your works° may be blotted° out. 7 The slain° will fall° among° you, and you will know° that I am the LORD°.

8 ¶ “However, I will leave° a aremnant°, for you will have° those who° bescaped° the sword° among the nations° when you are scattered° among the countries°. 9 Then those of you who° escape° will aremember° Me among the nations° to which° they will be carried° captive°, how° I have Ibbeen hurt° by their adulterous° hearts° which° turned° away° from Me, and by their eyes° which played° the harlot° after° their idols°; and they will cloathe° themselves in their own sight° for the evils° which° they have committed°, for all° their abominations°. 10 Then they will know° that I am the LORD°; I have not said° in vain° Ithat I would inflict° this° disaster° on them.”’

11 ¶ “Thus° says° the Lord° IGOD°, ‘Clap° your hand°, astamp° your foot° and say°, “bAlas°, because° of all° the evil° abominations° of the house° of Israel°, which° will fall° by csword°, famine° and plague°! 12 He who° is afar° off° will die° by the plague°, and he who° is near° will fall° by the sword°, and he who remains° and is besieged° will die° by the famine°. Thus will I bspend° My wrath° on them. 13 Then you will know° that I am the LORD°, when their aslain° are among° their idols° around° their altars°, on bevery° high° hill°, on all° the tops° of the mountains°, under° every° green° tree° and under° every° leafy° oak°—the places° where°° they offered° soothing° aroma° to all° their idols°. 14 So throughout all° their habitations° I will astretch° out My hand° against° them and make° the land° more° desolate° and waste° than° the wilderness° toward Diblah°; thus they will know° that I am the LORD°.”’”

The judgment of Israel for their idolatry.

1 ¶ And the wordº of the LORDº came² unto² me, saying,ºª 2 Sonº of man,º setºª thy faceº toward² the mountainsº of Israel,º and prophesyºª against² them, 3 And say,ºª Ye mountainsº of Israel,º hearºª the wordº of the Lordº GOD;º Thus² saithºª the Lordº GODº to the mountains,º and to the hills,º to the rivers,º and to the valleys;º Behold,² I, [even] I,² will bringºª a swordº upon² you, and I will destroyºª your high places.º 4 And your altarsº shall be desolate,ºª and your imagesº shall be broken:ºª and I will cast downºª your slainº [men] beforeº your idols.º 5 And I will layºª² the dead carcasesº of the childrenº of Israelº beforeº their idols;º and I will scatterºª² your bonesº round aboutº your altars.º 6 In all² your dwellingplacesº the citiesº shall be laid waste,ºª and the high placesº shall be desolate;ºª that² your altarsº may be laid wasteºª and made desolate,ºª and your idolsº may be brokenºª and cease,ºª and your imagesº may be cut down,ºª and your worksº may be abolished.ºª 7 And the slainº shall fallºª in the midstº of you, and ye shall knowºª that² I² [am] the LORD.º

A remnant shall be blessed.

8 ¶ Yet will I leave a remnant,ºª that ye may have² [some] that shall escapeº the swordº among the nations,º when ye shall be scatteredºª through the countries.º 9 And they that escapeº of you shall rememberºª me among the nationsº whither²² they shall be carried captives,ºª because² I am brokenºª with² their whorishºª heart,º which² hath departedºª from²² me, and with² their eyes,º which go a whoringºª afterº their idols:º and they shall lotheºª themselvesº for² the evilsº which² they have committedºª in all² their abominations.º 10 And they shall knowºª that² I² [am] the LORD,º [and that] I have not² saidºª in vainº² that I would doºª this² evilº unto them.

The faithful are exhorted to lament their calamities.

11 ¶ Thus² saithºª the Lordº GOD;º Smiteºª with thine hand,º and stampºª with thy foot,º and say,ºª Alasº for² all² the evilº abominationsº of the houseº of Israel!º for² they shall fallºª by the sword,º by the famine,º and by the pestilence.º 12 He that is far offº shall dieºª of the pestilence;º and he that is nearº shall fallºª by the sword;º and he that remainethºª and is besiegedºª shall dieºª by the famine:º thus will I accomplishºª my furyº upon them. 13 Then shall ye knowºª that² I² [am] the LORD,º when their slainº [men] shall be² amongº their idolsº round aboutº their altars,º upon² every² highºª hill,º in all² the topsº of the mountains,º and under² every² greenº tree,º and under² every² thickº oak,º the placeº where²² they did offerºª sweetº savourº to all² their idols.º 14 So will I stretch outºª² my handº upon² them, and makeºª² the landº desolate,º yea, more desolateº than the wildernessº² toward Diblath,º in all² their habitations:º and they shall knowºª that² I² [am] the LORD.º
