  1 But now°, thus° says° the LORD°, your aCreator°, O Jacob°,
  And He who bformed° you, O Israel°,
  “Do not cfear°, for I have dredeemed° you;
  I have ecalled° you by name°; you are fMine!
  2 “When° you apass° through the waters°, bI will be with you;
  And through the rivers°, they will not overflow° you.
  When° you cwalk° through° the fire°, you will not be scorched°,
  Nor° will the flame° burn° you.
  3 “For aI am the LORD° your God°,
  The Holy° One° of Israel°, your bSavior°;
  I have given° Egypt° as your ransom°,
  IcCush° and Seba° in your place°.
  4 “Since°° you are aprecious° in My sight°,
  [Since] you are bhonored° and I clove° you,
  I will give° [other] men° in your place° and [other] peoples° in exchange° for your life°.
  5 “Do not fear°, for aI am with you;
  I will bring° byour offspring° from the east°,
  And cgather° you from the west°.
  6 “I will say° to the anorth°, ‘Give° [them] up!’
  And to the south°, ‘Do not hold° [them] back°.’

  And My daughters° from the cends° of the earth°,
  7 Everyone° who is acalled° by My name°,

Israel Is God’s Witness

  8 ¶ Bring° out the people° who° are ablind°, even though they have° eyes°,
  And the deaf°, even though they have ears°.
  9 All° the nations° have agathered° together°
  So that the peoples° may be assembled°.
  Who° among them can bdeclare° this°
  And proclaim° to us the former° things°?
  Let them present° ctheir witnesses° dthat they may be justified°,
  Or let them hear° and say°, “It is true°.”
  10 “You are aMy witnesses°,” declares° the LORD°,
  “And bMy servant° whom° I have chosen°,
  So that you may know° and believe° Me
  And understand° that cI am He.

  And there will be none° after° Me.
  11 “I, even I, am the LORD°,

Babylon to Be Destroyed

14 ¶ Thus° says° the LORD° your aRedeemer°, the Holy° One° of Israel°,
  “For your sake° I have sent° to Babylon°,
  And will bring° them all° down° as fugitives°,
  IEven the bChaldeans°, into the cships° IIin which they rejoice°.
  15 “I am the LORD°, your Holy° One°,
  aThe Creator° of Israel°, your bKing°.”
16 Thus° says° the LORD°,
  Who amakes° a way° through the sea°
  And a path° through the mighty° waters°,
  17 Who brings° forth° the achariot° and the horse°,
  The army° and the mighty° man°
  (They will lie° down° together° [and] not rise° again;
  They have been bquenched° [and] extinguished° like a wick°):
  18aDo not call° to mind° the former° things°,
  Or ponder° things° of the past°.
  19 “Behold°, I will do° something° anew°,
  Now° it will spring° forth°;

The Shortcomings of Israel

  22 ¶ “Yet you have not called° on Me, O Jacob°;

The LORD comforteth the Church with his promises.

He appealeth to the people for witness of his omnipotency.

He foretelleth them the destruction of Babylon,

14 ¶ Thus² saithºª the LORD,º your redeemer,ºª the Holy Oneº of Israel;º For your sake² I have sentºª to Babylon,º and have brought downºª all² their nobles,º and the Chaldeans,º whose cryº [is] in the ships.º 15 I² [am] the LORD,º your Holy One,º the creatorºª of Israel,º your King.º 16 Thus² saithºª the LORD,º which makethºª a wayº in the sea,º and a pathº in the mightyº waters;º 17 Which bringeth forthºª the chariotº and horse,º the armyº and the power;º they shall lie downºª together,º they shall not² rise:ºª they are extinct,ºª they are quenchedºª as tow.º

He reproveth the people as inexcusable.

22 ¶ But thou hast not² called¹ª upon² me, O Jacob;º but² thou hast been wearyºª of me, O Israel.º 23 Thou hast not² broughtºª me the small cattleº of thy burnt offerings;º neither² hast thou honouredºª me with thy sacrifices.º I have not² caused thee to serveºª with an offering,º nor² weariedºª thee with incense.º 24 Thou hast boughtºª me no² sweet caneº with money,º neither² hast thou filledºª me with the fatº of thy sacrifices:º but² thou hast made me to serveºª with thy sins,º thou hast weariedºª me with thine iniquities.º 25 I,² [even] I,² [am] he² that blotteth outºª thy transgressionsº for mine own sake,² and will not² rememberºª thy sins.º 26 Put me in remembrance:ºª let us pleadºª together:º declareºª thou,² that² thou mayest be justified.ºª 27 Thy firstº fatherº hath sinned,ºª and thy teachersºª have transgressedºª against me. 28 Therefore I have profanedºª the princesº of the sanctuary,º and have givenºª Jacobº to the curse,º and Israelº to reproaches.º
