1 Then Job° Ianswered°,
  2 “I have heard° many° such° things°;
  IaSorry° comforters° are you all°.
  3 “Is there [no] limit° to awindy° words°?
  Or° what° plagues° you that you answer°?
  4 “I too° could speak° like you,
  If° II were in your place°.
  I could compose° words° against° you
  And ashake° my head° at you.
  5 “I could strengthen° you with my mouth°,
  And the solace° of my lips° could lessen° [your pain].

  6 ¶ “If° I speak°, amy pain° is not lessened°,
  And if I hold° back°, what° has left° me?
  7 “But now° He has aexhausted° me;
  You have laid° bwaste° all° my company°.
  8 “You have shriveled° me up,
  aIt has become° a witness°;
  And my bleanness° rises° up against me,
  It testifies° to my face°.
  9 “His anger° has atorn° me and Ihunted° me down°,
  He has bgnashed° at me with His teeth°;
  My cadversary° IIglares°° at me.
  10 “They have agaped° at me with their mouth°,
  They have Ibslapped° me on the cheek° with contempt°;
  They have cmassed° themselves against° me.
  11 “God° hands° me over° to ruffians°
  And tosses° me into the hands° of the wicked°.
  12 “I was at ease°, but aHe shattered° me,
  And He has grasped° me by the neck° and shaken° me to pieces°;
  He has also set° me up as His btarget°.
  13 “His aarrows° surround° me.
  Without° mercy° He splits° my kidneys° open°;
  He pours° out bmy gall° on the ground°.
  14 “He abreaks° through° me with breach° after°° breach°;
  He bruns° at me like a warrior°.
  15 “I have sewed° asackcloth° over° my skin°
  And bthrust° my horn° in the dust°.
  16 “My face° is flushed° from aweeping°,
  bAnd deep° darkness° is on my eyelids°,
  17 Although° there is no° aviolence° in my hands°,
  And bmy prayer° is pure°.

Job reproveth his friends of unmercifulness.

He sheweth the pitifulness of his case.

7 But² now² he hath made me weary:ºª thou hast made desolateºª all² my company.º 8 And thou hast filled me with wrinkles,ºª [which] is² a witnessº [against me]: and my leannessº rising upºª in me beareth witnessºª to my face.º 9 He tearethºª [me] in his wrath,º who hatethºª me: he gnashethºª upon² me with his teeth;º mine enemyº sharpenethºª his eyesº upon me. 10 They have gapedºª upon² me with their mouth;º they have smittenºª me upon the cheekº reproachfully;º they have gathered¹ª themselves² togetherº against² me. 11 Godº hath deliveredºª me to² the ungodly,º and turned me overºª into² the handsº of the wicked.º 12 I was² at ease,º but he hath broken me asunder:ºª he hath also takenºª [me] by my neck,º and shaken me to pieces,ºª and set me upºª for his mark.º 13 His archersº compass me round about,ºª² he cleavethºª my reinsº asunder,¹ª and doth not² spare;ºª he poureth outºª my gallº upon the ground.º 14 He breakethºª me with breachº uponº² breach,º he runnethºª upon² me like a giant.º 15 I have sewedºª sackclothº upon² my skin,º and defiledºª my hornº in the dust.º 16 My faceº is foulºª with² weeping,º and on² my eyelidsº [is] the shadow of death;º
