NASB — Psalms 88 — KJV

A Petition to Be Saved from Death.

A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. For the choir director; according to Mahalath Leannoth. A Maskil of Heman the Ezrahite.

  1 O LORD°, the aGod° of my salvation°,
  I have bcried° out by day° and in the night° before° You.
  2 Let my prayer° acome° before° You;
  bIncline° Your ear° to my cry°!
  3 For my asoul° has Ihad° enough° troubles°,
  And bmy life° has drawn° near° to IISheol°.
  4 I am reckoned° among° those who ago° down° to the pit°;
  I have° become° like a man° bwithout° strength°,
  5 IForsaken° aamong the dead°,
  Like° the slain° who lie° in the grave°,
  Whom° You remember° no° more°,
  And they are bcut° off° from Your hand°.
  6 You have put° me in athe lowest° pit°,
  In bdark° places°, in the cdepths°.
  7 Your wrath° ahas rested° upon me,
  And You have afflicted° me with ball° Your waves°.
      ISelah°.
  8 You have removed° amy acquaintances° far° from me;
  You have made° me an Ibobject° of loathing° to them;
  I am cshut° up and cannot° go° out.
  9 My aeye° has wasted° away° because° of affliction°;
  I have bcalled° upon You every° day°, O LORD°;
  I have cspread° out my Ihands° to You.

A prayer containing a grievous complaint.

1 ¶ [[A Songº [or] Psalmº for the sonsº of Korah,º to the chief Musicianºª upon² Mahalathº Leannoth,ºª Maschilºª of Hemanº the Ezrahite.]]º O LORDº Godº of my salvation,º I have criedºª dayº [and] nightº before² thee: 2 Let my prayerº comeºª beforeº thee: inclineºª thine earº unto my cry;º 3 For² my soulº is fullºª of troubles:º and my lifeº draweth nighºª unto the grave.º 4 I am countedºª with² them that go downºª into the pit:º I am² as a manº [that hath] no² strength:º 5 Freeº among the dead,ºª like² the slainº that lieºª in the grave,º whom² thou rememberestºª no² more:² and they² are cut offºª from thy hand.º² 6 Thou hast laidºª me in the lowestº pit,º in darkness,º in the deeps.º 7 Thy wrathº lieth hardºª upon² me, and thou hast afflictedºª [me] with all² thy waves.º Selah.º 8 Thou hast put awayºª mine acquaintanceºª far¹ª from² me; thou hast madeºª me an abominationº unto them: [I am] shut up,ºª and I cannot² come forth.ºª 9 Mine eyeº mournethºª by reason of² affliction:º LORD,º I have calledºª dailyº² upon thee, I have stretched outºª my handsº unto thee.² 10 Wilt thou shewºª wondersº to the dead?ºª shall the deadº ariseºª [and] praiseºª thee? Selah.º 11 Shall thy lovingkindnessº be declaredºª in the grave?º [or] thy faithfulnessº in destruction?º 12 Shall thy wondersº be knownºª in the dark?º and thy righteousnessº in the landº of forgetfulness?º 13 But unto² thee have I² cried,ºª O LORD;º and in the morningº shall my prayerº preventºª thee. 14 LORD,º why² castest thou offºª my soul?º [why] hidestºª thou thy faceº from² me? 15 I² [am] afflictedº and ready to dieºª from [my] youth¹ up:²² [while] I sufferºª thy terrorsº I am distracted.ºª 16 Thy fierce wrathº goeth² over¹ª² me; thy terrorsº have cut me off.ºª 17 They came round aboutºª me dailyº² like water;º they compassed¹ª me about²² together.º 18 Loverºª and friendº hast thou put farºª from² me, [and] mine acquaintanceºª into darkness.º
