The prayer of Jonah.1 ¶ Then Jonahº prayedºª unto² the LORDº his Godº out of the fish'sº belly,º² 2 And said,ºª I criedºª by reason of mine afflictionº² unto² the LORD,º and he heardºª me; out of the bellyº² of hellº criedºª I, [and] thou heardestºª my voice.º 3 For thou hadst castºª me into the deep,º in the midstº of the seas;º and the floodsº compassed¹ª me about:² all² thy billowsº and thy wavesº passed² over¹ª² me. 4 Then I² said,ºª I am cast outºª of²² thy sight;º yet² I will lookºª againºª toward² thy holyº temple.º 5 The watersº compassed me about,ºª [even] to² the soul:º the depthº closed me round about,ºª the weedsº were wrapped² about¹ª my head.º 6 I went downºª to the bottomsº of the mountains;º the earthº with her barsº [was] about² me for ever:º yet hast thou brought upºª my lifeº from corruption,º² O LORDº my God.º 7 When my soulº faintedºª within² me I rememberedºª² the LORD:º and my prayerº came inºª unto² thee, into² thine holyº temple.º 8 They that observeºª lyingº vanitiesº forsakeºª their own mercy.º 9 But I² will sacrificeºª unto thee with the voiceº of thanksgiving;º I will payºª [that] that² I have vowed.ºª Salvationº [is] of the LORD.º [1] 2Ch 33:11; Jb 13:15; Ps 50:15; 91:15; 130:1; Is 26:16; Lm 3:53; Ho 5:15; 6:1; Ac 16:24; Jm 5:13.
