Habakkuk in his prayer trembleth at God's majesty.

1 ¶ A prayerº of Habakkukº the prophetº upon² Shigionoth.º 2 O LORD,º I have heardºª thy speech,º [and] was afraid:ºª O LORD,º reviveºª thy workº in the midstº of the years,º in the midstº of the yearsº make known;ºª in wrathº rememberºª mercy.ºª 3 Godº cameºª from Teman,º² and the Holy Oneº from mountº² Paran.º Selah.º His gloryº coveredºª the heavens,º and the earthº was fullºª of his praise.º 4 And [his] brightnessº was² as the light;º he had hornsº [coming] out of his hand:º² and there² [was] the hidingº of his power.º 5 Beforeº him went¹ª² the pestilence,º and burning coalsº went forthºª at his feet.º 6 He stood,ºª and measuredºª the earth:º he beheld,ºª and drove asunderºª the nations;º and the everlastingº mountainsº were scattered,ºª the perpetualº hillsº did bow:ºª his waysº [are] everlasting.º 7 I sawºª the tentsº of Cushanº in² affliction:º [and] the curtainsº of the landº of Midianº did tremble.ºª 8 Was the LORDº displeasedºª against the rivers?º [was] thine angerº against the rivers?º [was] thy wrathº against the sea,º that² thou didst rideºª upon² thine horsesº [and] thy chariotsº of salvation?º 9 Thy bowº was made quite¹ naked,ºª² [according] to the oathsº of the tribes,º [even thy] word.º Selah.º Thou didst cleaveºª the earthº with rivers.º 10 The mountainsº sawºª thee, [and] they trembled:ºª the overflowingº of the waterº passed by:ºª the deepº utteredºª his voice,º [and] lifted upºª his handsº on high.º 11 The sunº [and] moonº stood stillºª in their habitation:º at the lightº of thine arrowsº they went,ºª [and] at the shiningº of thy glitteringº spear.º 12 Thou didst march throughºª the landº in indignation,º thou didst threshºª the heathenº in anger.º 13 Thou wentest forthºª for the salvationº of thy people,º [even] for salvationº with² thine anointed;º thou woundedstºª the headº out of the houseº² of the wicked,º by discoveringºª the foundationº unto² the neck.º Selah.º 14 Thou didst strike throughºª with his stavesº the headº of his villages:º they came out as a whirlwindºª to scatterºª me: their rejoicingº [was] as² to devourºª the poorº secretly.º 15 Thou didst walkºª through the seaº with thine horses,º [through] the heapº of greatº waters.º 16 When I heard,ºª my bellyº trembled;ºª my lipsº quiveredºª at the voice:º rottennessº enteredºª into my bones,º and I trembledºª in² myself, that² I might restºª in the dayº of trouble:º when he cometh upºª unto the people,º he will invade² them with his troops.¹ª
