“Yet You Have Not Returned to Me”

  1 Hear° this° word°, you cows° of aBashan° who° are on the bmountain° of Samaria°,
  Who coppress° the poor°, who crush° the needy°,
  Who say° to Iyour husbands°, “Bring° now, that we may ddrink°!”
  2 The Lord° IGOD° has asworn° by His bholiness°,
  “Behold°, the days° are coming° upon you
  When IIthey will take° you away with cmeat° hooks°,
  And the last° of you with dfish° hooks°.
  3 “You will ago° out [through] breaches° [in the walls],
  Each° one° straight° before° her,
  And you Iwill be cast° to Harmon°,” declares° the LORD°.

  4 ¶ “Enter° Bethel° and transgress°;
  In Gilgal° multiply° transgression°!
  aBring° your sacrifices° every morning°,
  Your tithes° every three° days°.
  5IOffer° a athank° offering° also from that which° is leavened°,
  And proclaim° bfreewill° offerings°, make° them known°.
  For so° you clove° [to do], you sons° of Israel°,”

  6 ¶ “But I gave° you also° acleanness° of teeth° in all° your cities°
  And lack° of bread° in all° your places°,
  Yet you have bnot returned° to Me,” declares° the LORD°.
  7 “Furthermore°, I awithheld° the rain° from you
  While [there were] still° three° months° until harvest°.
  Then I would send° rain° on one° city°
  And on banother° city° I would not send° rain°;
  One° part° would be rained° on,
  While the part° not rained° on would dry° up.
  8 “So two° or three° cities° would stagger° to another° city° to drink° awater°,
  But would bnot be satisfied°;
  Yet you have cnot returned° to Me,” declares° the LORD°.
  9 “I asmote° you with scorching° [wind] and mildew°;
  And the bcaterpillar° was devouring°
  Your many° gardens° and vineyards°, fig° trees° and olive° trees°;
  Yet you have cnot returned° to Me,” declares° the LORD°.
  10 “I sent° a aplague° among you after the manner° of Egypt°;
  I bslew° your young° men° by the sword° along° with your ccaptured° horses°,
  And I made the dstench° of your camp° rise° up in your nostrils°;
  Yet you have enot returned° to Me,” declares° the LORD°.
  11 “I overthrew° you, as aGod° overthrew° Sodom° and Gomorrah°,
  And you were like a bfirebrand° snatched° from a blaze°;
  Yet you have cnot returned° to Me,” declares° the LORD°.
  12 “Therefore° thus° I will do° to you, O Israel°;
  Because°° I will do° this° to you,
  Prepare° to ameet° your God°, O Israel°.”
  13 For behold°, He who aforms° mountains° and bcreates° the wind°
  And cdeclares° to man° what° are His thoughts°,
  He who dmakes° dawn° into darkness°
  And etreads° on the high° places° of the earth°,
  fThe LORD° God° of hosts° is His name°.

He reproveth Israel for oppression,

4 ¶ Comeºª to Bethel,º and transgress;ºª at Gilgalº multiplyºª transgression;ºª and bringºª your sacrificesº every morning,º [and] your tithesº after threeº years:º 5 And offer¹ª a sacrifice² of thanksgivingº with² leaven,º and proclaimºª [and] publishºª the free offerings:º for² thisº likethºª you, O ye childrenº of Israel,º saithºª the Lordº GOD.º

and for their incorrigibleness.

6 ¶ And I² also² have givenºª you cleannessº of teethº in all² your cities,º and wantº of breadº in all² your places:º yet have ye not² returnedºª unto² me, saithºª the LORD.º 7 And also² I² have withholdenºª² the rainº from² you, when [there were] yet² threeº monthsº to the harvest:º and I caused it to rainºª upon² oneº city,º and caused it not to rainºª² upon² anotherº city:º oneº pieceº was rained¹ª upon,² and the pieceº whereupon²² it rainedºª not² withered.ºª 8 So twoº [or] threeº citiesº wanderedºª unto² oneº city,º to drinkºª water;º but they were not² satisfied:ºª yet have ye not² returnedºª unto² me, saithºª the LORD.º 9 I have smittenºª you with blastingº and mildew:º when your gardensº and your vineyardsº and your fig treesº and your olive treesº increased,ºª the palmerwormº devouredºª [them]: yet have ye not² returnedºª unto² me, saithºª the LORD.º 10 I have sentºª among you the pestilenceº after the mannerº of Egypt:º your young menº have I slainºª with the sword,º and have taken awayº² your horses;º and I have made the stinkº of your campsº to come upºª unto your nostrils:º yet have ye not² returnedºª unto² me, saithºª the LORD.º 11 I have overthrownºª [some] of you, as Godº overthrewº² Sodomº and Gomorrah,º and ye were² as a firebrandº plucked² out¹ª of the burning:º² yet have ye not² returnedºª unto² me, saithºª the LORD.º 12 Therefore² thus² will I doºª unto thee, O Israel:º [and] becauseº² I will doºª this² unto thee, prepareºª to meetºª thy God,º O Israel.º 13 For,² lo,² he that formethºª the mountains,º and createthºª the wind,º and declarethºª unto manº what² [is] his thought,º that makethºª the morningº darkness,º and treadethºª upon² the high placesº of the earth,º The LORD,º The Godº of hosts,º [is] his name.º
