David complaineth to God of the outrage of the wicked.

1 ¶ Why² standestºª thou afar off,º O LORD?º [why] hidestºª thou [thyself] in timesº of trouble?º 2 The wickedº in [his] prideº doth persecuteºª the poor:º let them be takenºª in the devicesº thatº they have imagined.ºª 3 For² the wickedº boastethºª of² his heart'sº desire,º and blessethºª the covetous,ºª [whom] the LORDº abhorreth.ºª 4 The wicked,º through the prideº of his countenance,º will not² seekºª [after God]: Godº [is] not² in all² his thoughts.º 5 His waysº are alwaysº² grievous;ºª thy judgmentsº [are] far aboveº out of his sight:²² [as for] all² his enemies,ºª he puffethºª at them. 6 He hath saidºª in his heart,º I shall not² be moved:ºª for [I shall] neverº²² [be] in adversity.º 7 His mouthº is fullºª of cursingº and deceitº and fraud:º under² his tongueº [is] mischiefº and vanity.º 8 He sittethºª in the lurking placesº of the villages:º in the secret placesº doth he murderºª the innocent:º his eyesº are privily setºª against the poor.º 9 He lieth in waitºª secretlyº as a lionº in his den:º he lieth in waitºª to catchºª the poor:º he doth catchºª the poor,º when he drawethºª him into his net.º 10 He croucheth,ºª [and] humblethºª himself, that the poorº¹ªª may fallºª by his strong ones.º 11 He hath saidºª in his heart,º Godº hath forgotten:ºª he hidethºª his face;º he will neverº² seeºª [it].
