Covenant of the Rainbow

1 And God° blessed° Noah° and his sons° and said° to them, “aBe fruitful° and multiply°, and fill° the earth°. 2 The fear° of you and the terror° of you will be on every° beast° of the earth° and on every° bird° of the Isky°; with everything° that creeps° on the ground°, and all° the fish° of the sea°, into your hand° they are given°. 3 Every° moving° thing° that is alive° shall be food° for you; I give° all° to you, aas [I gave] the green° plant°. 4 Only° you shall not eat° flesh° with its life°, [that is], aits blood°. 5 Surely° I will require° Iayour lifeblood°°; IIbfrom every° beast° I will require° it. And IIfrom [every] man°, IIfrom every° man’s° brother° I will require° the life° of man°.
  6aWhoever sheds° man’s° blood°,
  By man° his blood° shall be shed°,
  For bin the image° of God°
  He made° man°.
  7 “As for you, abe fruitful° and multiply°;
  IPopulate° the earth° abundantly° and multiply° in it.”

8 ¶ Then God° spoke° to Noah° and to his sons° with him, saying°, 9 “Now behold°, aI Myself° do establish° My covenant° with you, and with your Idescendants° after° you; 10 and with every° living° creature° that is with you, the birds°, the cattle°, and every° beast° of the earth° with you; of all° that comes° out of the ark°, even every° beast° of the earth°. 11 I establish° My covenant° with you; and all° flesh° shall anever° again° be cut° off° by the water° of the flood°, bneither° shall there again° be a flood° to destroy° the earth°.” 12 God° said°, “This° is athe sign° of the covenant° which° I am making° between° Me and you and every° living° creature° that is with you, for Iall° successive° generations°; 13 I set° My abow° in the cloud°, and it shall be for a sign° of a covenant° between° Me and the earth°. 14 It shall come° about, when I bring° a cloud° over° the earth°, that the bow° will be seen° in the cloud°, 15 and aI will remember° My covenant°, which° is between° Me and you and every° living° creature° of all° flesh°; and bnever° again° shall the water° become° a flood° to destroy° all° flesh°. 16 When the bow° is in the cloud°, then I will look° upon it, to remember° the aeverlasting° covenant° between° God° and every° living° creature° of all° flesh° that is on the earth°.” 17 And God° said° to Noah°, “This° is the sign° of the covenant° which° I have established° between° Me and all° flesh° that is on the earth°.”

18 ¶ Now the sons° of Noah° who came° out of the ark° were Shem° and Ham° and Japheth°; and aHam° was the father° of Canaan°. 19 These° three° [were] the sons° of Noah°, and afrom these° the whole° earth° was Ipopulated°.

20 ¶ Then Noah° began° Ifarming°° and planted° a vineyard°. 21 He drank° of the wine° and abecame° drunk°, and uncovered° himself inside° his tent°. 22 Ham°, the father° of Canaan°, asaw° the nakedness° of his father°, and told° his two° brothers° outside°. 23 But Shem° and Japheth° took° a garment° and laid° it upon both° their shoulders° and walked° backward° and covered° the nakedness° of their father°; and their faces° were Iturned° away°, so that they did not see° their father’s° nakedness°. 24 When Noah° awoke° from his wine°, he knew° what° his youngest° son° had done° to him. 25 So he said°,
  “aCursed° be Canaan°;
  IbA servant° of servants°
  He shall be to his brothers°.”
26 He also said°,
  “aBlessed° be the LORD°,
  The God° of Shem°;
  And let Canaan° be Ihis servant°.
  27aMay God° enlarge° Japheth°,
  And let him dwell° in the tents° of Shem°;
  And let Canaan° be Ihis servant°.”

God blesseth Noah.

4 Butº fleshº with the lifeº thereof, [which is] the bloodº thereof, shall ye not² eat.ºª 5 And surelyº² your bloodº of your livesº will I require;ºª at the handº² of every² beastº will I require² it,¹ª and at the handº² of man;º at the handº² of every man'sº brotherº will I requireºª² the lifeº of man.º 6 Whoso sheddethºª man'sº blood,º by manº shall his bloodº be shed:ºª for² in the imageº of Godº madeºª he² man.º 7 And you,² be ye fruitful,ºª and multiply;ºª bring forth abundantlyºª in the earth,º and multiplyºª therein.

8 ¶ And Godº spakeºª unto² Noah,º and to² his sonsº with² him, saying,ºª

God's Covenant

9 And I,² behold,² I establishºª² my covenantº with² you, and with² your seedº after² you;¹ 10 And with² every² livingº creatureº that² [is] with² you, of the fowl,º of the cattle,º and of every² beastº of the earthº with² you; from all²² that go outºª of the ark,º to every² beastº of the earth.º 11 And I will establishºª² my covenantº with² you; neither² shall all² fleshº be cut offºª any more² by the watersº² of a flood;º neither² shall there any more² be² a floodº to destroyºª the earth.º 12 And Godº said,ºª This² [is] the tokenº of the covenantº which² Iº makeºª between² me and you and every² livingº creatureº that² [is] with² you, for perpetualº generations:º

signified by the rainbow.

13 I do setºª² my bowº in the cloud,º and it shall be² for a tokenº of a covenantº between² me and the earth.º 14 And it shall come to pass,² when I bringºª a cloudº over² the earth,º that the bowº shall be seenºª in the cloud:º 15 And I will rememberºª² my covenant,º which² [is] between² me and you and every² livingº creatureº of all² flesh;º and the watersº shall no² moreº become² a floodº to destroyºª all² flesh.º 16 And the bowº shall be² in the cloud;º and I will look upon² it,¹ª that I may rememberºª the everlastingº covenantº betweenº Godº and¹ every² livingº creatureº of all² fleshº that² [is] upon² the earth.º 17 And Godº saidºª unto² Noah,º This² [is] the tokenº of the covenant,º which² I have establishedºª between² me and all² fleshº that² [is] upon² the earth.º

Noah replenisheth the world,

18 ¶ And the sonsº of Noah,º that went forthºª of² the ark,º were² Shem,º and Ham,º and Japheth:º and Hamº¹ [is] the fatherº of Canaan.º 19 These² [are] the threeº sonsº of Noah:º and of them²² was the whole² earthº overspread.ºª

planteth a vinyard,

20 And Noahº beganºª [to be] an husbandman,ºº and he plantedºª a vineyard:º

curseth Canaan,
