NASB — Proverbs 10 — KJV

Contrast of the Righteous and the Wicked

1 The aproverbs° of Solomon°.
  bA wise° son° makes° a father° glad°,
  But ca foolish° son° is a grief° to his mother°.
  2 IaIll-gotten° gains° do not profit°,
  But righteousness° delivers° from death°.
3 The LORD° awill not allow the Irighteous° to hunger°,
But He bwill IIreject° the craving° of the wicked°.
  4 Poor° is he who works° with a negligent° hand°,
  But the ahand° of the diligent° makes° rich°.
  5 He who gathers° in summer° is a son° who acts° wisely°,
  [But] he who sleeps° in harvest° is a son° who acts° shamefully°.
  6 aBlessings° are on the head° of the righteous°,
  But bthe mouth° of the wicked° conceals° violence°.
  7 The amemory° of the righteous° is blessed°,
But bthe name° of the wicked° will rot°.
  8 The awise° of heart° will receive° commands°,
  But Ia babbling° fool° will be IIruined°.
  9 He awho walks° in integrity° walks° securely°,
But bhe who perverts° his ways° will be found° out.
  10 He awho winks° the eye° causes° trouble°,
  And Iba babbling° fool° will be IIruined°.
  11 The amouth° of the righteous° is a fountain° of life°,
  But bthe mouth° of the wicked° conceals° violence°.
  12 Hatred° stirs° up strife°,
  But alove° covers° all° transgressions°.
  13 On athe lips° of the discerning°, wisdom° is found°,
  But ba rod° is for the back° of him who° lacks° Iunderstanding°.
  14 Wise° men° astore° up knowledge°,
But with bthe mouth° of the foolish°, ruin° is at hand°.
  15 The arich° man’s° wealth° is his Ifortress°°,
The bruin° of the poor° is their poverty°.
  16 The Iawages° of the righteous° is life°,
  The income° of the wicked°, punishment°.
  17 He ais [on] the path° of life° who heeds° instruction°,
  But he who ignores° reproof° goes° astray°.
  18 He awho conceals° hatred° [has] lying° lips°,
  And he who spreads° slander° is a fool°.
  19 When there are amany° words°, transgression° is unavoidable°°,
But bhe who restrains° his lips° is wise°.
  20 The tongue° of the righteous° is [as] achoice° silver°,
The heart° of the wicked° is [worth] little°.
  21 The alips° of the righteous° feed° many°,
  But fools° bdie° for lack° of Iunderstanding°.
  22 It is the ablessing° of the LORD° that makes° rich°,
  And He adds° no° sorrow° to it.
  23 Doing° wickedness° is like asport° to a fool°,
  And [so is] wisdom° to a man° of understanding°.
  24 What° athe wicked° fears° will come° upon him,
But the bdesire° of the righteous° will be granted°.
  25 When the awhirlwind° passes°, the wicked° is no° more°,
  But the brighteous° [has] an everlasting° foundation°.
  26 Like vinegar° to the teeth° and smoke° to the eyes°,
So° is the alazy° one° to those who send° him.
  27 The afear° of the LORD° prolongs° Ilife°,
But the byears° of the wicked° will be shortened°.
  28 The ahope° of the righteous° is gladness°,
  But the bexpectation° of the wicked° perishes°.
  29 The away° of the LORD° is a stronghold° to the upright°,
  But bruin° to the workers° of iniquity°.
  30 The arighteous° will never°° be shaken°,
But bthe wicked° will not dwell° in the land°.
  31 The amouth° of the righteous° flows° with wisdom°,
But the bperverted° tongue° will be cut° out.
  32 The lips° of the righteous° bring° forth° awhat° is acceptable°,
  But the bmouth° of the wicked° what° is perverted°.

Sundry observations of moral virtues, and their contrary vices (10-24).

1 ¶ The proverbsº of Solomon.º A wiseº sonº maketh a gladºª father:º but a foolishº sonº [is] the heavinessº of his mother.º 2 Treasuresº of wickednessº profitºª nothing:² but righteousnessº deliverethºª from death.º² 3 The LORDº will not² suffer¹ª the soulº of the righteousº to famish:ºª but he casteth awayºª the substanceº of the wicked.º 4 He becometh poorºª that dealethºª [with] a slackº hand:º but the handº of the diligentº maketh rich.ºª 5 He that gatherethºª in summerº [is] a wiseºª son:º [but] he that sleepethºª in harvestº [is] a sonº that causeth shame.ºª 6 Blessingsº [are] upon the headº of the just:º but violenceº coverethºª the mouthº of the wicked.º 7 The memoryº of the justº [is] blessed:º but the nameº of the wickedº shall rot.ºª 8 The wiseº in heartº will receiveºª commandments:º but a pratingº foolº shall fall.ºª 9 He that walketh¹ª² uprightlyº walkethºª surely:º but he that pervertethºª his waysº shall be known.ºª 10 He that winkethºª with the eyeº causethºª sorrow:º but a pratingº foolº shall fall.ºª 11 The mouthº of a righteousº [man is] a wellº of life:º but violenceº coverethºª the mouthº of the wicked.º 12 Hatredº stirreth upºª strifes:º but loveº coverethºª² all² sins.º 13 In the lipsº of him that hath understandingºª wisdomº is found:ºª but a rodº [is] for the backº of him that is voidº of understanding.º 14 Wiseº [men] lay upºª knowledge:º but the mouthº of the foolishº [is] nearº destruction.º 15 The rich man'sº wealthº [is] his strongº city:º the destructionº of the poorº [is] their poverty.º 16 The labourº of the righteousº [tendeth] to life:º the fruitº of the wickedº to sin.º 17 He [is in] the wayº of lifeº that keepethºª instruction:º but he that refusethºª reproofº erreth.ºª 18 He that hidethºª hatredº [with] lyingº lips,º and he that utterethºª a slander,º [is] a fool.º 19 In the multitudeº of wordsº there wantethºª not² sin:º but he that refrainethºª his lipsº [is] wise.ºª 20 The tongueº of the justº [is as] choiceºª silver:º the heartº of the wickedº [is] little worth.º 21 The lipsº of the righteousº feedºª many:º but foolsº dieºª for wantº of wisdom.º 22 The blessingº of the LORD,º it² maketh rich,ºª and he addethºª no² sorrowº with² it. 23 [It is] as sportº to a foolº to doºª mischief:º but a manº of understandingº hath wisdom.º 24 The fearº of the wicked,º it² shall come¹ª upon² him: but the desireº of the righteousº shall be granted.ºª 25 As the whirlwindº passeth,ºª so [is] the wickedº no² [more]: but the righteousº [is] an everlastingº foundation.º 26 As vinegarº to the teeth,º and as smokeº to the eyes,º so² [is] the sluggardº to them that sendºª him. 27 The fearº of the LORDº prolongethºª days:º but the yearsº of the wickedº shall be shortened.ºª 28 The hopeº of the righteousº [shall be] gladness:º but the expectationº of the wickedº shall perish.ºª 29 The wayº of the LORDº [is] strengthº to the upright:º but destructionº [shall be] to the workersºª of iniquity.º 30 The righteousº shall neverº² be removed:ºª but the wickedº shall not² inhabitºª the earth.º 31 The mouthº of the justº bringeth forthºª wisdom:º but the frowardº tongueº shall be cut out.ºª 32 The lipsº of the righteousº knowºª what is acceptable:º but the mouthº of the wickedº [speaketh] frowardness.º
