Ezekiel, in a vision of God at Jerusalem,

1 ¶ And it came to pass² in the sixthº year,º in the sixthº [month], in the fifthº [day] of the month,º [as] I² satºª in mine house,º and the eldersº of Judahº satºª beforeº me, that the handº of the Lordº GODº fellºª there² upon² me. 2 Then I beheld,ºª and lo² a likenessº as the appearanceº of fire:º from the appearanceº² of his loinsº even downward,º fire;º and from his loinsº² even upward,º as the appearanceº of brightness,º as the colourº of amber.º 3 And he put forthºª the formº of an hand,º and tookºª me by a lockº of mine head;º and the spiritº lifted me upºª² between² the earthº and the heaven,º and broughtºª me in the visionsº of Godº to Jerusalem,º to² the doorº of the innerº gateº that lookethºª toward the north;º where²² [was] the seatº of the imageº of jealousy,º which provoketh to jealousy.¹ª² 4 And, behold,² the gloryº of the Godº of Israelº [was] there,² according to the visionº that² I sawºª in the plain.º

5 ¶ Then saidºª he unto² me, Sonº of man,º lift upºª thine eyesº now² the wayº toward the north.º So I lifted upºª mine eyesº the wayº toward the north,º and behold² northwardº² at the gateº of the altarº this² imageº of jealousyº in the entry.º 6 He saidºª furthermore unto² me, Sonº of man,º seestºª thou² what² they² do?ºª [even] the greatº abominationsº that² the houseº of Israelº committethºª here,² that I should go far offºª from²² my sanctuary?º but turn¹ª thee yet again,²² [and] thou shalt seeºª greaterº abominations.º

7 ¶ And he broughtºª me to² the doorº of the court;º and when I looked,ºª behold² aº holeº in the wall.º 8 Then saidºª he unto² me, Sonº of man,º digºª now² in the wall:º and when I had diggedºª in the wall,º behold² aº door.º 9 And he saidºª unto² me, Go in,ºª and beholdºª² the wickedº abominationsº that² they² doºª here.² 10 So I went inºª and saw;ºª and behold² every² formº of creeping things,º and abominableº beasts,º and all² the idolsº of the houseº of Israel,º pourtrayedºª upon² the wallº round about.º 11 And there stoodºª beforeº them seventyº menº of the ancientsº² of the houseº of Israel,º and in the midstº of them stoodºª Jaazaniahº the sonº of Shaphan,º with every manº his censerº in his hand;º and a thickº cloudº of incenseº went up.ºª 12 Then saidºª he unto² me, Sonº of man,º hast thou seenºª what² the ancientsº of the houseº of Israelº doºª in the dark,º every manº in the chambersº of his imagery?º for² they say,ºª The LORDº seethºª us not;² the LORDº hath forsakenºª² the earth.º

the mourners for Tammuz,

13 ¶ He saidºª also unto² me, Turn¹ª thee yet again,²² [and] thou shalt seeºª greaterº abominationsº that² they² do.ºª 14 Then he broughtºª me to² the doorº of the gateº of the LORD'Sº houseº which² [was] toward² the north;º and, behold,² there² satºª womenº weepingºª for² Tammuz.º

15 ¶ Then saidºª he unto² me, Hast thou seenºª [this], O sonº of man?º turn¹ª thee yet again,²² [and] thou shalt seeºª greaterº abominationsº than these.²² 16 And he broughtºª me into² the innerº courtº of the LORD'Sº house,º and, behold,² at the doorº of the templeº of the LORD,º between² the porchº and the altar,º [were] about fiveº and twentyº men,º with their backsº toward² the templeº of the LORD,º and their facesº toward the east;º and they² worshippedºª the sunº toward the east.º

17 ¶ Then he saidºª unto² me, Hast thou seenºª [this], O sonº of man?º Is it a light thingºª to the houseº of Judahº that they commitºª²² the abominationsº which² they commitºª here?² for² they have filledºª² the landº with violence,º and have returnedºª to provoke me to anger:ºª and, lo,² they putºª² the branchº to² their nose.º

God's wrath for their idolatry.

18 Therefore will I² also² dealºª in fury:º mine eyeº shall not² spare,ºª neither² will I have pity:ºª and though they cryºª in mine earsº with a loudº voice,º [yet] will I not² hearºª them.
