Daniel's vision of four beasts.1 ¶ In the firstº yearº of Belshazzarº kingº of Babylonº Danielº hadºª a dreamº and visionsº of his headº uponº his bed:º thenº he wroteºª the dream,º [and] toldºª the sumº of the matters.º 2 Danielº spakeºª and said,ºª I sawººªª in my visionº byº night,º and, behold,º the fourº windsº of the heavenº stroveºª upon the greatº sea.º 3 And fourº greatº beastsº came upºª fromº the sea,º diverseºª oneº from¹ another.º² 4 The firstº [was] like a lion,º and had eagle'sº² wings:º I beheldººªª tillº² the wingsº thereof were plucked,ºª and it was lifted upºª fromº the earth,º and made standºª uponº the feetº as a man,º and a man'sº heartº was givenºª to it. 5 And beholdº anotherº beast,º a second,º likeºª to a bear,º and it raised upºª itself on oneº side,º and [it had] threeº ribsº in the mouthº of it betweenº the teethº of it: and they saidºª thusº unto it, Arise,ºª devourºª muchº flesh.º 6 Afterº thisº I beheld,ººªª and loº another,º like a leopard,º which had uponº the backº of it fourº wingsº of² a fowl;º the beastº had also fourº heads;º and dominionº was givenºª to it. 7 Afterº thisº I sawººªª in the nightº visions,º and beholdº a fourthº beast,º dreadfulºª and terrible,º and strongº exceedingly;º and it had greatº ironº² teeth:º it devouredºª and brake in pieces,ºª and stampedºª the residueº with the feetº of it: and itº [was] diverseºª fromº allº the beastsº that² [were] beforeº it; and it had tenº horns.º 8 I consideredººªª the horns,º and, behold,º there came upºª amongº them anotherº littleº horn,º beforeºº whom there were threeº ofº the firstº hornsº plucked up by the roots:ºª and, behold,º in thisº hornº [were] eyesº like the eyesº of man,º and a mouthº speakingºª great things.º [1] Gn 15:1; 46:2; Nu 12:6; Jb 4:13; 33:14; Is 8:1; 30:8; Jr 23:28; 27:7; Ezk 1:1; Dn 2:1, 28; 4:5; 5:1, 22, 30; 7:7, 13, 15; 8:1; Jol 2:28; Am 3:7; Hab 2:2; Ac 2:17; Ro 15:4; 2Co 12:1; Rv 1:19; 10:4.

Of God's Kingdom.9 ¶ I beheldººªª tillº² the thronesº were cast down,ºª and the Ancientº of daysº did sit,ºª whose garmentº [was] whiteº as snow,º and the hairº of his headº like the pureº wool:º his throneº [was like] the fieryº² flame,º [and] his wheelsº [as] burningºª fire.º 10 A fieryº² streamº issuedºª and came forthºª fromº beforeº him: thousandº thousandsº ministeredºª unto him, and ten thousand¹ times ten thousandº stoodºª beforeº him: the judgmentº was set,ºª and the booksº were opened.ºª 11 I beheldººªª thenº because¹ of² the voiceº of the greatº wordsº which² the hornº spake:ºª I beheldººªª [even] tillº² the beastº was slain,ºª and his bodyº destroyed,ºª and givenºª to the burningº flame.º 12 As concerning the restº of the beasts,º they had their dominionº taken away:ºª yet their livesº were prolongedºª² forº a seasonº and time.º 13 I sawººªª in the nightº visions,º and, behold,º [one] like the Sonº of manº cameºª² withº the cloudsº of heaven,º and cameºª toº the Ancientº of days,º and they brought him nearºª beforeº him. 14 And there was givenºª him dominion,º and glory,º and a kingdom,º that allº people,º nations,º and languages,º should serveºª him: his dominionº [is] an everlastingº dominion,º which² shall notº pass away,ºª and his kingdomº [that] which² shall notº be destroyed.ºª [9] Ps 45:8; 90:2; 102:24; 104:2, 3; Is 9:6; Ezk 1:13; 10:2; Dn 2:34, 44; 7:13, 22; Mi 5:2; Hab 1:12; Mt 17:2; Mk 9:3; Ac 2:30, 33; 1Co 15:24; Php 3:9; 2Th 1:7; 1Ti 6:16; 2P 3:7; 1Jn 1:5; Rv 1:14; 19:18; 20:1.

The interpretation thereof.15 ¶ Iº Danielº was grievedºª in my spiritº in the midstº of [my] body,º and the visionsº of my headº troubledºª me. 16 I came nearºª untoº oneº ofº them that stood by,ºª and askedºª² him¹ the truthº of² allº this.º So he toldºª me, and made me knowºª the interpretationº of the things.º 17 Theseº greatº beasts,º which¹² are four,º [are] fourº kings,º [which] shall ariseºª out ofº the earth.º 18 But the saintsº of the most Highº shall takeºª the kingdom,º and possessºª the kingdomº for¹ ever,º² even for¹ everº² and ever.º 19 Thenº I wouldºª know² the truthºª ofº the fourthº beast,º which² wasºª diverseºª fromº allº the others, exceedingº dreadful,ºª whose teethº [were of]² iron,º and his nailsº [of]² brass;º [which] devoured,ºª brake in pieces,ºª and stampedºª the residueº with his feet;º 20 And ofº the tenº hornsº that² [were] in his head,º and [of] the otherº which² came up,ºª and beforeºº whom threeº fell;ºª even [of] that² hornº that¹ had eyes,º and a mouthº that spakeºª very great things,º whose lookº [was] more¹ª stoutº thanº his fellows.º 21 I beheld,ººªª and the sameº hornº madeºª warº withº the saints,º and prevailedºª against them; 22 Untilº² the Ancientº of daysº came,ºª¹ and judgmentº was givenºª to the saintsº of the most High;º and the timeº cameºª that the saintsº possessedºª the kingdom.º 23 Thusº he said,ºª The fourthº beastº shall beºª the fourthº kingdomº upon earth,º which² shall be diverseºª fromº allº kingdoms,º and shall devourºª the wholeº earth,º and shall tread it down,ºª and break it in pieces.ºª 24 And the tenº hornsº out ofº this kingdomº [are] tenº kingsº [that] shall arise:ºª and anotherº shall riseºª afterº them; and he² shall be diverseºª fromº the first,º and he shall subdueºª threeº kings.º 25 And he shall speakºª [great] wordsº againstº the most High,º and shall wear outºª the saintsº of the most High,º and thinkºª to changeºª timesº and laws:º and they shall be givenºª into his handº untilº a timeº and timesº and the dividingº of time.º 26 But the judgmentº shall sit,ºª and they shall take awayºª his dominion,º to consumeºª and to destroyºª [it] untoº the end.º 27 And the kingdomº and dominion,º and the greatnessº of² the kingdomº underº the wholeº heaven,º shall be givenºª to the peopleº of the saintsº of the most High,º whose kingdomº [is] an everlastingº kingdom,º and allº dominionsº shall serveºª and obeyºª him. 28 Hithertoºº [is] the endº of² the matter.º As for meº Daniel,º my cogitationsº muchº troubledºª me, and my countenanceº changedºª in² me:¹ but I keptºª the matterº in my heart.º [15] Gn 40:7; 41:8; Jr 15:17; 17:16; Dn 2:1, 3; 4:5; 7:28; 8:27; Hab 3:16; Lk 19:41; Ro 9:2; 2P 1:14; Rv 10:9.
