NASB — Psalms 74 — KJV

An Appeal against the Devastation of the Land by the Enemy.

A Maskil of Asaph.

  1 O God°, why° have You arejected° [us] forever°?
  Why does Your anger° bsmoke° against the csheep° of Your Ipasture°?
  2 Remember° Your congregation°, which You have apurchased° of old°,
  Which You have bredeemed° to be the ctribe° of Your inheritance°;
  [And] this° Mount° dZion°, where° You have dwelt°.
  3 ITurn° Your footsteps° toward the aperpetual° ruins°;
  The enemy° bhas damaged° everything° within the sanctuary°.
  4 Your adversaries° have aroared° in the midst° of Your meeting° place°;
  They have set° up their bown Istandards° cfor signs°.
  5 It seems° as if one had lifted° up
  [His] Iaaxe° in a IIforest° of trees°.
  6 And now° Iall° its acarved° work°
  They smash° with hatchet° and IIhammers°.
  7 They have Iaburned°° Your sanctuary° IIto the ground°;
  They have bdefiled° the dwelling° place° of Your name°.
  8 They asaid° in their heart°, “Let us Icompletely° IIsubdue° them.”
  They have burned° all° the meeting° places° of God° in the land°.
  9 We do not see° our asigns°;
  There° is bno° longer° any prophet°,
  Nor° is there any among° us who knows° chow° long°.
  10 How° long°°, O God°, will the adversary° arevile°,
  [And] the enemy° bspurn° Your name° forever°?
  11 Why° ado You withdraw° Your hand°, even Your right° hand°?
  From within° Your bosom°, bdestroy° [them]!

The prophet complaineth of the desolation of the sanctuary.

1 ¶ [[Maschilºª of Asaph.]]º O God,º why² hast thou cast [us] offºª for ever?º [why] doth thine angerº smokeºª against the sheepº of thy pasture?º 2 Rememberºª thy congregation,º [which] thou hast purchasedºª of old;º the rodº of thine inheritance,º [which] thou hast redeemed;ºª this² mountº Zion,º wherein thou hast dwelt.ºª 3 Lift upºª thy feetº unto the perpetualº desolations;º [even] all² [that] the enemyºª hath done wickedlyºª in the sanctuary.º 4 Thine enemiesºª roarºª in the midstº of thy congregations;º they set upºª their ensignsº [for] signs.º 5 [A man] was famousºª according as he had lifted upººª axesº upon the thickº trees.º 6 But now² they break downºª the carved workº thereof at onceº with axesº and hammers.º 7 They have castºª fireº into thy sanctuary,º they have defiledºª [by casting down] the dwelling placeº of thy nameº to the ground.º 8 They saidºª in their hearts,º Let us destroyºª them together:º they have burned upºª all² the synagoguesº of Godº in the land.º 9 We seeºª not² our signs:º [there is] no² more² any prophet:º neither² [is there] among² us any that knowethºª how long.º²
