God’s Wrath against Nations

  1 Draw° near°, aO nations°, to hear°; and listen°, O peoples°!
  bLet the earth° and Iall it contains° hear°, and the world° and all° that springs° from it.
  2 For the LORD’S° aindignation° is against° all° the nations°,
  And [His] wrath° against° all° their armies°;
  He has I butterly° destroyed° them,
  He has given° them over to cslaughter°.
  3 So their slain° will be athrown° out,
  And their corpses° Iwill give° off° their bstench°,
  And the mountains° will IIbe drenched° with their cblood°.
  4 And aall° the host° of heaven° will Iwear° away°,
  And the bsky° will be rolled° up like a scroll°;
  All° their hosts° will also wither° away°
  As a leaf° withers° from the vine°,
  Or as [one] withers° from the fig° tree°.
  5 For aMy sword° is satiated° in heaven°,
  Behold° it shall descend° for judgment° upon bEdom°
  And upon the people° whom I have cdevoted° to destruction°.
  6 The sword° of the LORD° is filled° with blood°,
  It is Isated° with fat°, with the blood° of lambs° and goats°,
  With the fat° of the kidneys° of rams°.
  For the LORD° has a sacrifice° in aBozrah°
  And a great° slaughter° in the land° of bEdom°.
  7 aWild° oxen° will also Ifall° with them
  And byoung° bulls° with strong° ones°;
  Thus their land° will be csoaked° with blood°,
  And their dust° IIbecome° greasy° with fat°.
  8 For the LORD° has a day° of avengeance°,
  A year° of recompense° for the Icause° of Zion°.
  9 IIts streams° will be turned° into pitch°,
  And its loose° earth° into abrimstone°,
  And its land° will become° burning° pitch°.
  10 It will anot be quenched° night° or day°;
  Its bsmoke° will go° up forever°.
  From cgeneration° to generation° it will be desolate°;
  dNone° will pass° through it forever° and ever°.
  11 But I apelican° and hedgehog° will possess° it,
  And IIowl° and raven° will dwell° in it;
  And He will stretch° over° it the bline° of IIIdesolation°
  And the IVplumb° line° of emptiness°.
  12 Its nobles°—there° is ano° one° there°
  [Whom] they may proclaim° king°—
  And all° its princes° will be bnothing°.
  13 Thorns° will come° up in its afortified° towers°,
  Nettles° and thistles° in its fortified° cities°;
  It will also be a haunt° of bjackals°
  [And] an abode° of ostriches°.
  14 The desert° acreatures° will meet° with the Iwolves°,
  The II ahairy° goat° also will cry° to its kind°;
  Yes°, the IIInight° monster° will settle° there°
  And will find° herself a resting° place°.
  15 The tree° snake° will make° its nest° and lay° [eggs] there°,
  And it will hatch° and gather° [them] under its Iprotection°.
  Yes°, athe IIhawks° will be gathered° there°,
  Every° one° with its kind°.

The judgments wherewith God revengeth his Church.

1 ¶ Come near,º ª ye nations,º to hear;º ª and hearken,º ª ye people:º let the earthº hear,º ª and all that is therein;º the world,º and all things² that come forthº of it. 2 For² the indignationº of the LORDº [is] upon² all² nations,º and [his] furyº upon² all² their armies:º he hath utterly destroyedº ª them, he hath deliveredº ª them to the slaughter.º 3 Their slainº also shall be cast out,º ª and their stinkº shall come upº ª out of their carcases,º and the mountainsº shall be meltedº ª with their blood.º ² 4 And all² the hostº of heavenº shall be dissolved,º ª and the heavensº shall be rolled togetherº ª as a scroll:º and all² their hostº shall fall down,º ª as the leafº falleth offº ª from the vine,º ² and as a fallingº ª [fig] from the fig tree.º ² 5 For² my swordº shall be bathedº ª in heaven:º behold,² it shall come downº ª upon² Idumea,º and upon² the peopleº of my curse,º to judgment.º 6 The swordº of the LORDº is filledº ª with blood,º it is made fatº ª with fatness,º ² [and] with the bloodº ² of lambsº and goats,º with the fatº ² of the kidneysº of rams:º for² the LORDº hath a sacrificeº in Bozrah,º and a greatº slaughterº in the landº of Idumea.º 7 And the unicornsº shall come downº ª with² them, and the bullocksº with² the bulls;º and their landº shall be soakedº ª with blood,º ² and their dustº made fatº ª with fatness.º ² 8 For² [it is] the dayº of the LORD'Sº vengeance,º [and] the yearº of recompencesº for the controversyº of Zion.º 9 And the streamsº thereof shall be turnedº ª into pitch,º and the dustº thereof into brimstone,º and the landº thereof shall become² burningº ª pitch.º 10 It shall not² be quenchedº ª nightº nor day;º the smokeº thereof shall go upº ª for ever:º from generationº ² to generationº it shall lie waste;º ª none² shall pass throughº ª it for everº and ever.º

The desolation of her enemies.

11 ¶ But the cormorantº and the bitternº shall possessº ª it; the owlº also and the ravenº shall dwellº ª in it: and he shall stretch outº ª upon² it the lineº of confusion,º and the stonesº of emptiness.º 12 They shall callº ª the noblesº thereof to the kingdom,º but none² [shall be] there,² and all² her princesº shall be² nothing.º 13 And thornsº shall come upº ª in her palaces,º nettlesº and bramblesº in the fortressesº thereof: and it shall be² an habitationº of dragons,¹ ² [and] a courtº for owls.º º 14 The wild beasts of the desertº shall also meetº ª with² the wild beasts of the island,º and the satyrº shall cryº ª to² his fellow;º the screech owlº also² shall restº ª there,² and findº ª for herself a place of rest.º 15 There² shall the great owlº make her nest,º ª and lay,º ª and hatch,º ª and gatherº ª under her shadow:º there² shall the vulturesº also² be gathered,º ª every oneº with her mate.º
