Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary

See commentary on Malachi 2:5-9.

Malachi 2:8

_ _ out of the way — that is, from the covenant.

_ _ caused many to stumble — By scandalous example, the worse inasmuch as the people look up to you as ministers of religion (1 Samuel 2:17; Jeremiah 18:15; Matthew 18:6; Luke 17:1).

_ _ at the law — that is, in respect to the observances of the law.

_ _ corrupted ... covenant — made it of none effect, by not fulfilling its conditions, and so forfeiting its promises (Zechariah 11:10; Nehemiah 13:29).

Matthew Henry's Commentary

See commentary on Malachi 2:1-9.

John Wesley's Explanatory Notes

Malachi 2:8

But ye — Priests. Stumble at the law — By your false expositions of it. Have corrupted — You have violated it, have contradicted the great intentions of it, and done what in you lay, to defeat them.
