Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary

Psalms 36:2-4

_ _ This reflection detailed.

_ _ until his iniquity — literally, “for finding his iniquity for hating”; that is, he persuades himself God will not so find it — “for hating” involving the idea of punishing. Hence his words of iniquity and deceit, and his bold rejection of all right principles of conduct. The climax is that he deliberately adopts and patronizes evil. The negative forms affirm more emphatically their contraries.

Matthew Henry's Commentary

See commentary on Psalms 36:1-4.

John Wesley's Explanatory Notes

Psalms 36:2

Flattereth — He deceiveth himself with vain persuasions, that God does not mind his sins, or will not punish them. Found — Punish, as the same phrase is used, Numbers 32:23.

Geneva Bible Translation Notes

Psalms 36:2

For he (b) flattereth himself in his own eyes, until his iniquity be found to be hateful.

(b) Though all others detest his vile sin, yet he himself sees it not.
