Rabbah is besieged by Joab, spoiled by David, and the people thereof tortured.

1 ¶ And it came to pass,² that afterº the yearº was expired,º at the timeº that kingsº go outºª [to battle], Joabº led forthºª² the powerº of the army,º and wastedºª² the countryº of the childrenº of Ammon,º and cameºª and besiegedºª² Rabbah.º But Davidº tarriedºª at Jerusalem.º And Joabº smoteºª² Rabbah,º and destroyedºª it. 2 And Davidº tookºª² the crownº of their kingº from off²² his head,º and foundºª it to weighº a talentº of gold,º and [there were] preciousº stonesº in it; and it was set² upon² David'sº head:º and he brought¹ª also exceeding¹ much¹ª spoil¹ out²²²² of the city.º 3 And he brought outºª the peopleº that² [were] in it, and cutºª [them] with saws,º and with harrowsº of iron,º and with axes.º Even so² dealtºª Davidº with all² the citiesº of the childrenº of Ammon.º And Davidº and all² the peopleº returnedºª to Jerusalem.º

Three giants are slain in three several overthrows of the Philistines.

4 ¶ And it came to pass² after² this,¹² that there aroseºª warº at Gezerº with² the Philistines;º at which timeº Sibbechaiº the Hushathiteº slewºª² Sippai,º [that was] of the childrenº² of the giant:º and they were subdued.ºª 5 And there was² warº again² with² the Philistines;º and Elhananº the sonº of Jairº slewºª² Lahmiº the brotherº of Goliathº the Gittite,º whose spearº staffº [was] like a weaver'sºª beam.º 6 And yet again² there was² warº at Gath,º where was² a manº of [great] stature,º whose fingers¹ and toesº [were] fourº and twenty,º sixº [on each hand], and sixº [on each foot]: and he² also² was the sonºª of the giant.º 7 But when he defiedºª² Israel,º Jonathanº the sonº of Shimeaº David'sº brotherº slewºª him. 8 Theseº were bornºª unto the giantº in Gath;º and they fellºª by the handº of David,º and by the handº of his servants.º
