2 Corinthians 6:18
_ _ Translate, “I will be to you in the relation of a Father, and ye shall be to me in the relation of sons and daughters.” This is a still more endearing relation than (2 Corinthians 6:16), “I will be their God, and they ... My people.” Compare the promise to Solomon (1 Chronicles 28:6; Isaiah 43:6; Revelation 21:3, Revelation 21:7; Jeremiah 31:1, Jeremiah 31:9).
_ _ Lord Almighty The Lord the Universal Ruler: nowhere else found but in Revelation. The greatness of the Promiser enhances the greatness of the promises. |
2 Corinthians 6:18
And ye shall be to me for sons and for daughters, saith the Lord Almighty The promise made to Solomon, 1 Chronicles 28:6, is here applied to all believers; as the promise made particularly to Joshua is applied to them, Hebrews 13:5. Who can express the worth, who can conceive the dignity, of this divine adoption? Yet it belongs to all who believe the gospel, who have faith in Christ. They have access to the Almighty; such free and welcome access, as a beloved child to an indulgent father. To him they may fly for aid in every difficulty, and from him obtain a supply in all their wants. Isaiah 43:6. |
- a Father:
Psalms 22:30 A seed shall serve him; it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation. Jeremiah 3:19 But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me. Jeremiah 31:1 At the same time, saith the LORD, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people. Jeremiah 31:9 They shall come with weeping, and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by the rivers of waters in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim [is] my firstborn. Hosea 1:9-10 Then said [God], Call his name Loammi: for ye [are] not my people, and I will not be your [God]. ... Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, [that] in the place where it was said unto them, Ye [are] not my people, [there] it shall be said unto them, [Ye are] the sons of the living God. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name: Romans 8:14-17 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. ... And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with [him], that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate [to be] conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Galatians 3:26 For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus. Galatians 4:5-7 To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons. ... Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Ephesians 1:5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 1 John 3:1-2 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not. ... Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is. Revelation 21:7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.

Genesis 48:3 And Jacob said unto Joseph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and blessed me, Revelation 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
