1 Corinthians 2:10
_ _ revealed ... by ... Spirit The inspiration of thoughts (so far as truth essential to salvation is concerned) makes the Christian (1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Corinthians 12:3; Matthew 16:17; John 16:13; 1 John 2:20, 1 John 2:27); that of words, the PROPHET (2 Samuel 23:1, 2 Samuel 23:2; 1 Kings 13:1, 1 Kings 13:5), “by the word of the Lord” (1 Corinthians 2:13; John 20:30, John 20:31; 2 Peter 1:21). The secrets of revelation are secret to some, not because those who know them will not reveal them (for indeed, the very notion of revelation implies an unveiling of what had been veiled), but because those to whom they are announced have not the will or power to comprehend them. Hence the Spirit-taught alone know these secrets (Psalms 25:14; Proverbs 3:32; John 7:17; John 15:15).
_ _ unto us the “perfect” or fully matured in Christian experience (1 Corinthians 2:6). Intelligent men may understand the outline of doctrines; but without the Holy Spirit’s revelation to the heart, these will be to them a mere outline a skeleton, correct perhaps, but wanting life [Whatley, Cautions for the Times, 14], (Luke 10:21).
_ _ the Spirit searcheth working in us and with our spirits (compare Romans 8:16, Romans 8:26, Romans 8:27). The Old Testament shows us God (the Father) for us. The Gospels, God (the Son) with us. The Acts and Epistles, God (the Holy Ghost) in us [Monod], (Galatians 3:14).
_ _ deep things of God (Psalms 92:5). His divine nature, attributes, and counsels. The Spirit delights to explore the infinite depths of His own divine mind, and then reveal them to us, according as we are capable of understanding them (Deuteronomy 29:29). This proves the personality and Godhead of the Holy Ghost. Godhead cannot be separated from the Spirit of God, as manhood cannot be separated from the Spirit of man [Bengel]. |
1 Corinthians 2:10
But God hath revealed Yea, and "freely given," 1 Corinthians 2:12. Them to us Even inconceivable peace, and joy unspeakable. By his Spirit Who intimately and fully knows them. For the Spirit searcheth even the deep things of God Be they ever so hidden and mysterious; the depths both of his nature and his kingdom. |
1 Corinthians 2:10
(9) But God hath revealed [them] unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit (k) searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
(9) A question: if it surpasses the capacity of men, how can it be understood by any man, or how can you declare and preach it? By a special enlightening of God's Spirit, with which whoever is inspired, he can enter even into the very secrets of God.
(k) There is nothing so secret and hidden in God, but the Spirit of God penetrates it. |
- God:
1 Corinthians 14:30 If [any thing] be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace. Amos 3:7 Surely the Lord GOD will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. Matthew 11:25-27 At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes. ... All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and [he] to whomsoever the Son will reveal [him]. Matthew 13:11 He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. Matthew 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed [it] unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Luke 2:26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. Luke 10:21 In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight. Ephesians 3:3 How that by revelation he made known unto me the mystery; (as I wrote afore in few words, Ephesians 3:5 Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit; 1 Peter 1:12 Unto whom it was revealed, that not unto themselves, but unto us they did minister the things, which are now reported unto you by them that have preached the gospel unto you with the Holy Ghost sent down from heaven; which things the angels desire to look into. Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified [it] by his angel unto his servant John:

Isaiah 48:16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there [am] I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me. Isaiah 59:21 As for me, this [is] my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that [is] upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever. John 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 1 John 2:20 But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things. 1 John 2:27 But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him.

- the Spirit:
1 Corinthians 2:11 For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. 1 Corinthians 12:8-11 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; ... But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. Romans 8:26-27 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. ... And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what [is] the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to [the will of] God.

- the deep:
Job 12:22 He discovereth deep things out of darkness, and bringeth out to light the shadow of death. Psalms 92:5-6 O LORD, how great are thy works! [and] thy thoughts are very deep. ... A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this. Daniel 2:22 He revealeth the deep and secret things: he knoweth what [is] in the darkness, and the light dwelleth with him. Romans 11:33-36 O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable [are] his judgments, and his ways past finding out! ... For of him, and through him, and to him, [are] all things: to whom [be] glory for ever. Amen.
