Song of Songs 4:11
_ _ drop always ready to fall, being full of honey, though not always (Proverbs 10:19) actually dropping (Song of Songs 5:13; Deuteronomy 32:2; Matthew 12:34).
_ _ honeycomb (Proverbs 5:3; Proverbs 16:24).
_ _ under thy tongue not always on, but under, the tongue, ready to fall (Psalms 55:21). Contrast her former state (Psalms 140:3; Romans 3:13). “Honey and milk” were the glory of the good land. The change is illustrated in the penitent thief. Contrast Matthew 27:44 with Luke 23:39, etc. It was literally with “one” eye, a sidelong glance of love “better than wine,” that he refreshed Jesus Christ (Song of Songs 4:9, Song of Songs 4:10). “To-day shalt thou be with Me (compare Song of Songs 4:8) in Paradise” (Song of Songs 4:12), is the only joyous sentence of His seven utterances on the cross.
_ _ smell of ... garments which are often perfumed in the East (Psalms 45:8). The perfume comes from Him on us (Psalms 133:2). We draw nigh to God in the perfumed garment of our elder brother (Genesis 27:27; see Jude 1:23).
_ _ Lebanon abounding in odoriferous trees (Hosea 14:5-7). |

- lips:
Song of Songs 4:3 Thy lips [are] like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech [is] comely: thy temples [are] like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks. Song of Songs 5:13 His cheeks [are] as a bed of spices, [as] sweet flowers: his lips [like] lilies, dropping sweet smelling myrrh. Song of Songs 7:9 And the roof of thy mouth like the best wine for my beloved, that goeth [down] sweetly, causing the lips of those that are asleep to speak. Psalms 71:14-15 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more. ... My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness [and] thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers [thereof]. Psalms 71:23-24 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed. ... My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt. Proverbs 16:24 Pleasant words [are as] an honeycomb, sweet to the soul, and health to the bones. Hosea 14:2 Take with you words, and turn to the LORD: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive [us] graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips. Hebrews 13:15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of [our] lips giving thanks to his name.

- the smell:
Song of Songs 4:10 How fair is thy love, my sister, [my] spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices! Genesis 27:27 And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son [is] as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed: Psalms 45:8 All thy garments [smell] of myrrh, and aloes, [and] cassia, out of the ivory palaces, whereby they have made thee glad.
