Proverbs 11:3
_ _ guide to lead, as a shepherd (Proverbs 6:7; Psalms 78:52).
_ _ perverseness ill-nature.
_ _ destroy with violence. |
Proverbs 11:3
_ _ It is not only promised that God will guide the upright, and threatened that he will destroy the transgressors, but, that we may be the more fully assured of both, it is here represented as if the nature of the thing were such on both sides that it would do it itself. 1. The integrity of an honest man will itself be his guide in the way of duty and the way of safety. His principles are fixed, his rule is certain, and therefore his way is plain; his sincerity keeps him steady, and he needs not tack about every time the wind turns, having no other end to drive at than to keep a good conscience. Integrity and uprightness will preserve men, Psalms 25:21. 2. The iniquity of a bad man will itself be his ruin. As the plainness of a good man will be his protection, though he is ever so much exposed, so the perverseness of sinners will be their destruction, though they think themselves eve so well fortified. They shall fall into pits of their own digging, Proverbs 5:22. |
- The integrity:
Proverbs 11:5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness. Proverbs 13:6 Righteousness keepeth [him that is] upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. Psalms 25:21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee. Psalms 26:1 [[[A Psalm] of David.]] Judge me, O LORD; for I have walked in mine integrity: I have trusted also in the LORD; [therefore] I shall not slide. John 7:17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or [whether] I speak of myself.

- the perverseness:
Proverbs 21:7 The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment. Proverbs 28:18 Whoso walketh uprightly shall be saved: but [he that is] perverse [in his] ways shall fall at once. Ecclesiastes 7:17 Be not over much wicked, neither be thou foolish: why shouldest thou die before thy time? Isaiah 1:28 And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners [shall be] together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.
