The general borders of the sons of Joseph.

1 ¶ And the lotº of the childrenº of Josephº fellºª from Jordanº² by Jericho,º unto the waterº of Jerichoº on the east,º to the wildernessº that goeth upºª from Jerichoº² throughout mountº Bethel,º 2 And goeth outºª from Bethelº² to Luz,º and passeth alongºª unto² the bordersº of Archiº to Ataroth,º 3 And goeth downºª westwardº to² the coastº of Japhleti,º unto² the coastº of Bethhoronº the nether,º and to² Gezer:º and the goings outº thereof are² at the sea.º 4 So the childrenº of Joseph,º Manassehº and Ephraim,º took their inheritance.ºª

The border of the inheritance of Ephraim.

5 ¶ And the borderº of the childrenº of Ephraimº according to their familiesº was² [thus]: even the borderº of their inheritanceº on the east² side¹ was² Atarothaddar,º unto² Bethhoronº the upper;º 6 And the borderº went outºª toward the seaº to Michmethahº on the north side;º² and the borderº went aboutºª eastwardº unto Taanathshiloh,º and passed¹ª by² it on the eastº² to Janohah;º 7 And it went downºª from Janohahº² to Ataroth,º and to Naarath,º and cameºª to Jericho,º and went outºª at Jordan.º 8 The borderº went out¹ª² from Tappuahº² westwardº unto the riverº Kanah;º and the goings outº thereof were² at the sea.º This² [is] the inheritanceº of the tribeº of the childrenº of Ephraimº by their families.º 9 And the separateº citiesº for the childrenº of Ephraimº [were] amongº the inheritanceº of the childrenº of Manasseh,º all² the citiesº with their villages.º

The Canaanites not conquered.

10 And they drave not outºª²² the Canaanitesº that dweltºª in Gezer:º but the Canaanitesº dwellºª amongº the Ephraimitesº unto² this² day,º and serveºª under tribute.º
