Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary

2 Chronicles 11:18

_ _ 2 Chronicles 11:18-23. His wives and children.

_ _ Rehoboam took Mahalath — The names of her father and mother are given. Jerimoth, the father, must have been the son of one of David’s concubines (1 Chronicles 3:9). Abihail was, of course, his cousin, previous to their marriage.

Matthew Henry's Commentary

daughter:
Eliab was David's eldest brother; and more than eighty years had elapsed since David, at the age of thirty, began to reign: Abigail must therefore have been grand-daughter to Eliab; and this shows the latitude in which the words son and daughter are used in Scripture.

Eliab:

1 Samuel 16:6 And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD'S anointed [is] before him.
1 Samuel 17:13 And the three eldest sons of Jesse went [and] followed Saul to the battle: and the names of his three sons that went to the battle [were] Eliab the firstborn, and next unto him Abinadab, and the third Shammah.
1 Samuel 17:28 And Eliab his eldest brother heard when he spake unto the men; and Eliab's anger was kindled against David, and he said, Why camest thou down hither? and with whom hast thou left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know thy pride, and the naughtiness of thine heart; for thou art come down that thou mightest see the battle.
1 Chronicles 2:13 And Jesse begat his firstborn Eliab, and Abinadab the second, and Shimma the third,
1 Chronicles 27:18 Of Judah, Elihu, [one] of the brethren of David: of Issachar, Omri the son of Michael:
