What the plague was we know not; but it seems from this to have begun at one part of the camp, and to have proceeded regularly onward.
Numbers 16:18 And they took every man his censer, and put fire in them, and laid incense thereon, and stood in the door of the tabernacle of the congregation with Moses and Aaron.
Numbers 16:35 And there came out a fire from the LORD, and consumed the
two hundred and fifty men that offered incense.
Numbers 25:8-
11 And he went after the man of Israel into the tent, and
thrust both of them through, the man of Israel, and the woman through her belly.
So the plague was stayed from the children of Israel. ... Phinehas, the son of Eleazar, the son of Aaron the priest, hath
turned my wrath away from the children of Israel, while he was zealous
for my sake among them,
that I consumed not the children of Israel in my jealousy.
2 Samuel 24:16-
17 And when
the angel stretched out his hand upon Jerusalem to destroy it, the LORD
repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people,
It is enough: stay now thine hand. And the angel of the LORD was by the threshingplace of
Araunah the Jebusite. ... And David
spake unto the LORD when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said,
Lo, I have sinned, and I have done wickedly: but
these sheep, what have they done?
let thine hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.
2 Samuel 24:25 And David
built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings. So the LORD was intreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.
1 Chronicles 21:26-
27 And David
built there an altar unto the LORD, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings,
and called upon the LORD; and he answered him from heaven
by fire upon the altar of burnt offering. ... And the LORD commanded the angel; and
he put up his sword again into the sheath thereof.
1 Thessalonians 1:10 And to
wait for his Son from heaven,
whom he raised from the dead, [
even]
Jesus, which delivered us from
the wrath to come.
1 Timothy 2:5-
6 For [
there is]
one God,
and one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus; ... Who
gave himself a ransom for all,
to be testified in due time.
Hebrews 7:24-
25 But this [
man], because
he continueth ever,
hath an unchangeable priesthood. ... Wherefore
he is able also to save them
to the uttermost that come unto God
by him, seeing he
ever liveth
to make intercession for them.
James 5:16 Confess [
your] faults one to another, and
pray one for another,
that ye may be healed.
The effectual fervent prayer of
a righteous man availeth much.
John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him
in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole:
sin no more,
lest a worse thing come unto thee.
