The nine tribes and half are to have their inheritance by lot.

1 ¶ And these² [are the countries] which² the childrenº of Israelº inheritedºª in the landº of Canaan,º which² Eleazarº the priest,º and Joshuaº the sonº of Nun,º and the headsº of the fathersº of the tribesº of the childrenº of Israel,º distributed for inheritanceºª to them. 2 By lotº [was] their inheritance,º as² the LORDº commandedºª by the handº of Moses,º for the nineº tribes,º and [for] the halfº tribe.º 3 For² Mosesº had givenºª the inheritanceº of twoº tribesº and an halfº tribeº on the other sideº² Jordan:º but unto the Levitesº he gaveºª none² inheritanceº amongº them. 4 For² the childrenº of Josephº were² twoº tribes,º Manassehº and Ephraim:º therefore they gaveºª no² partº unto the Levitesº in the land,º save²² citiesº to dwellºª [in], with their suburbsº for their cattleº and for their substance.º 5 As² the LORDº commandedºª² Moses,º so² the childrenº of Israelº did,ºª and they dividedºª² the land.º

6 ¶ Then the childrenº of Judahº cameºª unto² Joshuaº in Gilgal:º and Calebº the sonº of Jephunnehº the Keneziteº saidºª unto² him, Thou² knowestºª² the thingº that² the LORDº saidºª unto² Mosesº the manº of Godº concerning²² me¹ and thee¹ in Kadeshbarnea.º 7 Fortyº yearsº oldº [was] I² when Mosesº the servantº of the LORDº sentºª me from Kadeshbarneaº² to espy outºª² the land;º and I broughtºª him wordº again¹ª as² [it was] in² mine heart.º 8 Nevertheless my brethrenº that² went upºª with² me made² the heartº of the peopleº melt:ºª but I² whollyºª followedº the LORDº my God.º 9 And Mosesº swareºª on that² day,º saying,ºª Surely²² the landº whereon² thy feetº have troddenºª shall be² thine inheritance,º and thy children'sº for¹ ever,º² because² thou hast whollyºª followedº the LORDº my God.º 10 And now,² behold,² the LORDº hath kept me alive,ºª² as² he said,ºª these² fortyº and fiveº years,º even sinceº² the LORDº spakeºª² this² wordº unto² Moses,º while² [the children of] Israelº wanderedºª in the wilderness:º and now,² lo,² I² [am] this dayº fourscoreº and fiveº yearsº old.º 11 As yet² I [am as] strongº this dayº as² [I was] in the dayº that Mosesº sentºª me: as my strengthº [was] then,² even so [is] my strengthº now,² for war,º both to go out,ºª and to come in.ºª 12 Now² therefore giveºª me² this² mountain,º whereof² the LORDº spakeºª in that² day;º for² thou² heardestºª in that² dayº how² the Anakimsº [were] there,² and [that] the citiesº [were] greatº [and] fenced:ºª if² so be¹ the LORDº [will be] withº me, then I shall be able to drive them out,ºª as² the LORDº said.ºª 13 And Joshuaº blessedºª him, and gaveºª unto Calebº the sonº of Jephunnehº² Hebronº for an inheritance.º 14 Hebronº therefore²² became² the inheritanceº of Calebº the sonº of Jephunnehº the Keneziteº unto² this² day,º because² that² he whollyºª followedº the LORDº Godº of Israel.º 15 And the nameº of Hebronº beforeº [was] Kirjatharba;º [which Arba was] a greatº manº among the Anakims.º And the landº had restºª from war.º²
