Hezekiah Shows His Treasures

1 aAt that time° Merodach-baladan° son° of Baladan°, king° of Babylon°, sent° letters° and a present° to Hezekiah°, for he heard° that he had been° sick° and had recovered°. 2 Hezekiah° Iwas apleased°°, and showed° them [all] his treasure° house°, the bsilver° and the gold° and the spices° and the precious° oil° and his whole° armory°° and all° that was found° in his treasuries°. There was nothing°° in his house° nor in all° his dominion° that Hezekiah° did not show° them. 3 Then Isaiah° the aprophet° came° to King° Hezekiah° and said° to him, “What° did these° men° say°, and from where° have they come° to you?” And Hezekiah° said°, “They have come° to me from a far° bcountry°, from Babylon°.” 4 He said°, “What° have they seen° in your house°?” So Hezekiah° Ianswered°, “They have seen° all° that is in my house°; there is nothing°° among my treasuries° that I have not shown° them.”

5 ¶ Then Isaiah° said° to Hezekiah°, “Hear° the aword° of the LORD° of hosts°, 6 ‘Behold°, the days° are coming° when aall° that is in your house° and all that your fathers° have laid° up in store° to this° day° will be carried° to Babylon°; nothing°° will be left°,’ says° the LORD°. 7 ‘And [some] of your sons° who° will issue° from you, whom° you will beget°, awill be taken° away, and bthey will become° officials° in the palace° of the king° of Babylon°.’” 8 aThen Hezekiah° said° to Isaiah°, “The word° of the LORD° which° you have spoken° is good°.” For he Ithought°, “For there will be peace° and truth° bin my days°.”

Merodach-baladan, sending to visit Hezekiah because of the wonder, hath notice of his treasures.

1 ¶ At that² timeº Merodachbaladan,º the sonº of Baladan,º kingº of Babylon,º sentºª lettersº and a presentº to² Hezekiah:º for he had heardºª that² he had been sick,ºª and was recovered.ºª 2 And Hezekiahº was gladºª of² them, and shewedºª them² the houseº of his precious things,º² the silver,º and the gold,º and the spices,º and the preciousº ointment,º and all² the houseº of his armour,º and all² that² was foundºª in his treasures:º there was² nothingº² in his house,º nor in all² his dominion,º that² Hezekiahº shewedºª them not.²

Isaiah, understanding thereof, foretelleth the Babylonian captivity.

3 ¶ Then cameºª Isaiahº the prophetº unto² kingº Hezekiah,º and saidºª unto² him, What² saidºª these² men?¹² and from whenceº² cameºª they unto² thee? And Hezekiahº said,ºª They are comeºª from a farº countryº² unto² me, [even] from Babylon.º² 4 Then saidºª he, What² have they seenºª in thine house?º And Hezekiahº answered,ºª² All² that² [is] in mine houseº have they seen:ºª there is² nothingº² among my treasuresº that² I have not² shewedºª them. 5 Then saidºª Isaiahº to² Hezekiah,º Hearºª the wordº of the LORDº of hosts:º 6 Behold,² the daysº come,ºª that all² that² [is] in thine house,º and [that] which² thy fathersº have laid up in storeºª until² this² day,º shall be carriedºª to Babylon:º nothingº² shall be left,ºª saithºª the LORD.º 7 And of thy sonsº² that² shall issueºª from² thee, which² thou shalt beget,ºª shall they take away;ºª and they shall be² eunuchsº in the palaceº of the kingº of Babylon.º 8 Then saidºª Hezekiahº to² Isaiah,º Goodº [is] the wordº of the LORDº which² thou hast spoken.ºª He saidºª moreover, For² there shall be² peaceº and truthº in my days.º
