Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary

Isaiah 29:6

_ _ Thou — the Assyrian army.

_ _ thunder, etc. — not literally, in the case of the Assyrians (Isaiah 37:36); but figuratively for an awful judgment (Isaiah 30:30; Isaiah 28:17). The ulterior fulfillment, in the case of the Jews’ foes in the last days, may be more literal (see as to “earthquake,” Zechariah 14:4).

Matthew Henry's Commentary

See commentary on Isaiah 29:1-8.

John Wesley's Explanatory Notes

Isaiah 29:6

Thou — Thou, O Jerusalem. Fire — With dreadful judgments, which are frequently expressed by these metaphors.
