Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary

Isaiah 19:2

_ _ set — stir up. Gesenius translates, “arm.”

_ _ Egyptians against the Egyptians — Lower against Upper: and Saitic against both. (See Isaiah 3:10). Newton refers it to the civil wars between Apries and Amasis at the time of Nebuchadnezzar’s invasion; also between Tachos, Nectanebus, and the Mendesians, just before Ochus subdued Egypt.

_ _ kingdom against kingdom — The Septuagint has “nome against nome”; Egypt was divided into forty-two nomes or districts.

Matthew Henry's Commentary

See commentary on Isaiah 19:1-17.

John Wesley's Explanatory Notes

Isaiah 19:2

I will set — Egypt was now one kingdom, but not many years after this time it was divided into twelve kingdoms, between whom there were many and cruel wars.

Geneva Bible Translation Notes
