1 Samuel 16:1 And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul,
seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine
horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to
Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons.
1 Samuel 16:12-
13 And he sent, and brought him in. Now he [
was]
ruddy, [
and] withal
of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise,
anoint him: for this [
is] he. ... Then Samuel took the horn of oil, and
anointed him in the midst of his brethren: and
the Spirit of the LORD came upon David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up, and went to Ramah.
Isaiah 61:1-
3 The
Spirit of the Lord GOD [
is] upon me; because the LORD hath
anointed me
to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me
to bind up the brokenhearted,
to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to [
them that are] bound; ... To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them
beauty for ashes,
the oil of joy for mourning,
the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be
called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD,
that he might be glorified.
John 3:34 For
he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God:
for God giveth not the Spirit by measure [
unto him].
