Psalms 78:40-
41 How oft did they
provoke him in the wilderness, [
and] grieve him in the desert! ...
Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and
limited the Holy One of Israel.
Deuteronomy 31:16-
20 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold,
thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up,
and go a whoring after the gods of the strangers of the land, whither they go [
to be] among them, and will
forsake me, and
break my covenant which I have made with them. ... For
when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, that
floweth with milk and honey; and they shall have
eaten and filled themselves, and
waxen fat;
then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and provoke me, and break my covenant.
Deuteronomy 32:15-
21 But
Jeshurun waxed fat, and
kicked: thou art
waxen fat, thou art grown thick, thou art covered [
with fatness];
then he forsook God [
which] made him, and lightly esteemed
the Rock of his salvation. ... They have
moved me to jealousy with [
that which is] not God; they have provoked me to anger
with their vanities: and
I will move them to jealousy with [
those which are] not a people; I will provoke them to anger with a foolish nation.
Judges 2:11-
12 And the children of Israel
did evil in the sight of the LORD,
and served Baalim: ... And they
forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed
other gods, of the gods of the people that [
were] round about them, and
bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the LORD to anger.
2 Kings 17:7-
23 For [
so] it was, that the children of Israel had
sinned against the LORD their God,
which had brought them up out of the land of Egypt, from under the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt,
and had feared other gods, ... Until the LORD removed Israel out of his sight,
as he had said by all his servants the prophets.
So was Israel carried away out of their own land to Assyria unto this day.
Nehemiah 9:25-
26 And they took
strong cities, and
a fat land, and possessed houses full of all goods,
wells digged, vineyards, and oliveyards, and fruit trees in abundance: so they did eat, and were filled,
and became fat, and
delighted themselves in thy great goodness. ... Nevertheless
they were disobedient, and rebelled against thee, and
cast thy law behind their backs, and
slew thy prophets which testified against them to turn them to thee, and they
wrought great provocations.
Ezekiel 16:15-
26 But
thou didst trust in thine own beauty,
and playedst the harlot
because of thy renown,
and pouredst out thy fornications on every one that passed by; his it was. ... Thou hast also committed fornication
with the Egyptians thy neighbours, great of flesh; and hast increased thy whoredoms, to provoke me to anger.
