The embers of the sacred fire seem to have been removed in the grate, which was carried apart from the brazen altar; both being covered from view by purple cloths.
Numbers 4:6-
9 And shall put thereon the covering of
badgers' skins, and shall spread over [
it]
a cloth wholly of blue,
and shall put in
the staves thereof. ... And they shall take a cloth of blue, and cover the candlestick of the light, and his lamps, and his tongs, and his snuffdishes, and all the oil vessels thereof, wherewith they minister unto it:
Numbers 4:11-
12 And upon the golden altar they shall spread a cloth of blue, and cover it with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put to the staves thereof: ... And they shall take all the instruments of ministry, wherewith they minister in the sanctuary, and put [
them] in a cloth of blue, and cover them with a covering of badgers' skins, and shall put [
them] on a bar:
Exodus 27:3-
5 And thou shalt make his pans to receive his ashes, and
his shovels, and his
basons, and his fleshhooks, and his
firepans: all the vessels thereof thou shalt make [
of] brass. ... And thou shalt put it under the
compass of the altar beneath, that the net may be even to the midst of the altar.
Exodus 39:1 And of
the blue, and purple, and scarlet, they made
cloths of service, to do service in the
holy [place], and made
the holy garments for Aaron; as the LORD commanded Moses.
Exodus 39:41 The
cloths of service to do service in
the holy [
place], and the holy garments for Aaron the priest, and his sons' garments, to minister in the priest's office.
Leviticus 6:12-
13 And
the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall
burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings. ... The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.
