Genesis 29:28
_ _ gave him Rachel also It is evident that the marriage of both sisters took place nearly about the same time, and that such a connection was then allowed, though afterwards prohibited (Leviticus 18:18). |
- fulfilled her week:
- The public marriage feast made on this occasion, seems to have formed the regular method of recognising the marriage, and lasted seven days. It would therefore have been improper to have broken off the solemnities to which all the men of the place had been invited (
Genesis 29:22 And Laban gathered together all the men of the place, and made a feast. ) and probably Laban wished to keep the fraud from the public eye. It is perfectly plain that Jacob did not serve seven years more before he got Rachel to wife. Genesis 29:28 And Jacob did so, and fulfilled her week: and he gave him Rachel his daughter to wife also.
