Jotham, reigning well, prospereth.

1 ¶ Jothamº [was] twentyº and fiveº yearsº oldº when he began to reign,ºª and he reignedºª sixteenºº yearsº in Jerusalem.º His mother'sº nameº also [was] Jerushah,º the daughterº of Zadok.º 2 And he didºª [that which was] rightº in the sightº of the LORD,º according to all² that² his fatherº Uzziahº did:ºª howbeit² he enteredºª not² into² the templeº of the LORD.º And the peopleº did yet corruptly.ºª² 3 He² builtºª² the highº gateº of the houseº of the LORD,º and on the wallº of Ophelº he builtºª much.º 4 Moreover he builtºª citiesº in the mountainsº of Judah,º and in the forestsº he builtºª castlesº and towers.º

He subdueth the Ammonites.

5 ¶ He² foughtºª also with² the kingº of the Ammonites,¹²² and prevailedºª against² them. And the childrenº of Ammonº gaveºª him the same² yearº an hundredº talentsº of silver,º and tenº thousandº measuresº of wheat,º and tenº thousandº of barley.º So much² did the childrenº of Ammonº payºª unto¹ him, both the secondº year,º and the third.º 6 So Jothamº became mighty,ºª because² he preparedºª his waysº beforeº the LORDº his God.º

His reign.

7 ¶ Now the restº of the actsº of Jotham,º and all² his wars,º and his ways,º lo,² they [are] writtenºª in² the bookº of the kingsº of Israelº and Judah.º 8 He was² fiveº and twentyº yearsº oldº when he began to reign,ºª and reignedºª sixteenºº yearsº in Jerusalem.º

Ahaz succeedeth him.

9 ¶ And Jothamº sleptºª with² his fathers,º and they buriedºª him in the cityº of David:º and Ahazº his sonº reignedºª in his stead.²
