Jeremiah 9:9-
11 Shall I not visit them for these [
things]? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? ... And I will make
Jerusalem heaps, [
and]
a den of dragons; and I will make
the cities of Judah
desolate, without an inhabitant.

a proverb and a byword among all nations. ... And
this house, which is high, shall be an
astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say,

that pass by clap [
their] hands at thee;
they hiss and
wag their head at the daughter of Jerusalem, [
saying, Is] this the city that [
men] call The perfection of beauty, The joy of the whole earth? ... All
thine enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they hiss and
gnash the teeth: they say,
We have swallowed [
her] up: certainly this [
is] the day that we looked for; we have found,
we have seen [
it].
Zephaniah 2:15 This [
is]

how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in!
every one that passeth by her shall hiss, [
and] wag his hand.
