Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary

2 Corinthians 13:9

_ _ are gladGreek, “rejoice.”

_ _ when we are weak — having no occasion for displaying our power; and so seeming “weak,” as being compassed with “infirmities” (2 Corinthians 10:10; 2 Corinthians 11:29, 2 Corinthians 11:30).

_ _ ye ... strong — “mighty” in faith and the fruits of the Spirit.

_ _ and — not in the oldest manuscripts.

_ _ we wishGreek, “pray for.”

_ _ your perfection — literally, “perfect restoration”; literally, that of a dislocated limb. Compare 2 Corinthians 13:11, “Be perfect,” the same Greek word; also in 1 Corinthians 1:10, “perfectly joined together”; Ephesians 4:12, “the perfecting of the saints.”

Matthew Henry's Commentary

See commentary on 2 Corinthians 13:7-10.

John Wesley's Explanatory Notes

2 Corinthians 13:9

For we rejoice when we are weak — When we appear so, having no occasion to show our apostolic power. And this we wish, even your perfection — In the faith that worketh by love.
