2 Chronicles 21:8-10
_ _ 2 Chronicles 21:8-17. Edom and Libnah revolt.
_ _ the Edomites revolted That nation had been made dependent by David, and down to the time of Jehoshaphat was governed by a tributary ruler (1 Kings 22:47; 2 Kings 3:9). But that king having been slain in an insurrection at home, his successor thought to ingratiate himself with his new subjects by raising the flag of independence [Josephus]. The attempt was defeated in the first instance by Jehoram, who possessed all the military establishments of his father; but being renewed unexpectedly, the Edomites succeeded in completely emancipating their country from the yoke of Judah (Genesis 27:40). Libnah, which lay on the southern frontier and towards Edom, followed the example of that country. |
- the Edomites:
Genesis 27:40 And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck. 2 Kings 8:20-22 In his days Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah, and made a king over themselves. ... Yet Edom revolted from under the hand of Judah unto this day. Then Libnah revolted at the same time.

- and made:
1 Kings 22:47 [There was] then no king in Edom: a deputy [was] king. 2 Kings 3:9 So the king of Israel went, and the king of Judah, and the king of Edom: and they fetched a compass of seven days' journey: and there was no water for the host, and for the cattle that followed them.
