Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary

Jeremiah 31:39

_ _ measuring-line — (Ezekiel 40:8; Zechariah 2:1).

_ _ Gareb — from a Hebrew root, “to scrape”; Syriac, “leprosy”; the locality outside of the city, to which lepers were removed.

_ _ Goath — from a root, “to toil,” referring to the toilsome ascent there: outside of the city of David, towards the southwest, as Gareb was northwest [Junius].

Matthew Henry's Commentary

See commentary on Jeremiah 31:35-40.

John Wesley's Explanatory Notes

Jeremiah 31:39
