Hebrews 4:4
_ _ he spake God (Genesis 2:2).
_ _ God did rest the seventh day a rest not ending with the seventh day, but beginning then and still continuing, into which believers shall hereafter enter. God’s rest is not a rest necessitated by fatigue, nor consisting in idleness, but is that upholding and governing of which creation was the beginning [Alford]. Hence Moses records the end of each of the first six days, but not of the seventh.
_ _ from all his works Hebrew, Genesis 2:2, “from all His work.” God’s “work” was one, comprehending, however, many “works.” |

And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. Exodus 20:11 For [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them [is], and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus 31:17 It [is] a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
