— In the eighteenth year of the reign of Josiah{gr.Josias} this passover was kept, after all these things that Josiah{gr.Josias} did in the house. And king Josiah{gr.Josias} burnt those who had in them a divining spirit, and the wizards, and the images, and the idols, and the sodomites which were in the land of Judah{gr.Juda} and in Jerusalem, that he might confirm the words of the law that were written in the book which Hilkiah{gr.Chelcias} the priest found in the house of the Lord. There was no [king] like him before him, who turned to the Lord with all his heart, and all his soul, and all his strength, according to all the law of Mosheh{gr.Moses}, and after him there rose up none like him. Nevertheless the Lord turned not from the anger of his fierce wrath, wherewith the Lord was greatly angry against Judah{gr.Juda}, for all the provocations wherewith Manasseh{gr.Manasses} provoked him: and the Lord said, I will even remove Judah{gr.Juda} also from my presence, as I have removed Israel, and I have rejected the city which I chose, [even] Jerusalem, and thehouse of which I said, My name shall be there.

Jamieson-Fausset-Brown Commentary

2 Chronicles 35:19

_ _ In the eighteenth year of the reign Josiah was this passover kept — “It is said (2 Kings 22:3) that Josiah sent Shaphan to Hilkiah in the eighth month of that year.” If this statement rests upon an historical basis, all the events narrated here (at 2 Chronicles 34:8-35:19) must have happened in about the space of five months and a half. We should then have a proof that the eighteenth year of Josiah’s reign was reckoned from the autumn (compare 2 Chronicles 29:3). “The eighth month” of the sacred year in the eighteenth year of his reign would be the second month of his eighteenth year, and the first month of the new year would be the seventh month [Bertheau].
