Hebrews 8:8

_ _ finding fault with them — the people of the old covenant, who were not made “faultless” by it (Hebrews 8:7); and whose disregard of God’s covenant made Him to “regard them not” (Hebrews 8:9). The law is not in itself blamed, but the people who had not observed it.

_ _ he saith — (Jeremiah 31:31-34; compare Ezekiel 11:19; Ezekiel 36:25-27). At Rama, the headquarters of Nebuzar-adan, whither the captives of Jerusalem had been led, Jeremiah uttered this prophecy of Israel’s restoration under another David, whereby Rachel, wailing for her lost children, shall be comforted; literally in part fulfilled at the restoration under Zerubbabel, and more fully to be hereafter at Israel’s return to their own land; spiritually fulfilled in the Gospel covenant, whereby God forgives absolutely His people’s sins, and writes His law by His Spirit on the hearts of believers, the true Israel. “This prophecy forms the third part of the third trilogy of the three great trilogies into which Jeremiah’s prophecies may be divided: Jeremiah 21-25, against the shepherds of the people; Jeremiah 26-29, against the false prophets; Jeremiah 30:1-24 and Jeremiah 31:1-40, the book of restoration” [Delitzsch in Alford].

But there is; for finding fault with them — Who were under the old covenant he saith, I make a new covenant with the house of Israel — With all the Israel of God, in all ages and nations. It is new in many respects, though not as to the substance of it: Being ratified by the death of Christ. Freed from those burdensome rites and ceremonies. Containing a more full and clear account of spiritual religion. Attended with larger influences of the Spirit Extended to all men. And, Never to be abolished. Jeremiah 31:31, &c.

Hebrews 8:8 is quoting Jeremiah 31:31.In looking up the word 'new' in the hebrew (strongs#2319), the meaning is truly apparent from the cross references in which the same word is used. Exodus 1:8 says,"a new king arose". 2 Sam 6:3, "a new cart". Deut 24:5,"a new wife". If you can cross reference the word for yourself, there are many more examples that make it clear that 'new' means new and not 'refresh'. I'm praying for clarity for you, sister, because you are right, it is important to understand. Biblehub.com offers lots of cross reference.

I am confused on this issue using the word New! Christian says that it means to start over and people of the Hebrew perspective says it doesn't mean to make new but to refresh which i would think two different means. Can you help me understand what is being said. Did Yahweh give us a new covenant or did he make the one in place a better one
