And they said, The God
of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the LORD our God; lest he
fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.
And I will bring
a sword upon you, that shall avenge
the quarrel of [my
] covenant: and when ye are gathered together within your cities, I will send
the pestilence among you; and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.
I will smite
them with the pestilence, and disinherit them, and will make
of thee a greater nation and mightier than they.
And Moses said unto Aaron, Take a censer, and put
fire therein from off
the altar, and put on incense, and go quickly unto the congregation, and make an atonement
for them: for there is wrath
gone out from the LORD; the plague is begun
. ... Now they that died in the plague were fourteen thousand
and seven hundred, beside them that died about the matter of Korah.
And those that died in the plague were twenty and four thousand.
2 Samuel 24:15
So the LORD sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed: and there died of the people from Dan
even to Beersheba seventy thousand men
And it shall come to pass, if they say unto thee, Whither shall we go forth? then thou shalt tell them, Thus saith the LORD; Such as [are
] for death
, to death; and such as [are
] for the sword, to the sword; and such as [are
] for the famine, to the famine; and such as [are
] for the captivity, to the captivity.
They shall die
of grievous deaths; they shall not
be lamented; neither
shall they be buried; [but
] they shall be as dung
upon the face of the earth: and they shall be consumed
by the sword, and by famine; and their carcases shall be meat
for the fowls of heaven, and for the beasts of the earth.
And I will
smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they
shall die of a great pestilence. ... And afterward, saith the LORD, I will
deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall
smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.
And I will send the sword, the famine, and the pestilence, among them, till they be consumed from off the land that I gave unto them and to their fathers.
